These tactics make no sense. Spurs are pressing high up the pitch without playing a high defensive line. It’s a recipe for disaster.

Doing little roster turnover the last few seasons for a roster that clearly was lacking and had created a negative team culture seems like a huge misfire. A lot of the culture issues were Jose related but Jose also let a lot of players off the hook. Not even close to good enough and this is embarrassing.

Nuno’s done a nice trick of losing all the defensive solidity he built at the beginning of the season without adding any offensive threat.

All the goals have come from the same problem, a turnover in midfield with the midfielders getting caught too high as the defenders drop off. There is no structure or cohesion.

I like that a global pandemic didn’t prevent some fans from showing up, but a 3 goal deficit in the first 35 has them up and leaving.

How hot does Nuno’s seat get after losing 3 straight London derbies by 3+ goals, assuming this holds?

Probably too soon to pull a trigger, but this is abject.

Would’ve been pillow soft, but hand to the face is supposed to be a red, is it not? Wild that it was not even a yellow.

I know Palace got results against Brighton last year but this is like night and day from how those games went in terms of ball dominance and overall threat. Paddy is really doing some great work so far.

Palace robbed that one game from Brighton last year. It had to be one of the smash and grabs of the season for sure. I think they had like two touches inside the box and won 2-1. So yeah, this is a better performance :)

I don't want to jinx them before the match is over but Palace really do look pretty good. And the crowd at Selhurt really seems to appreciate it.

Love how Gallagher got absolutely cleared out there and instead of writhing on the floor for dramatic effect he just jumps up right out of his roll so that he could possibly still get in on the action.

Love this.

Yeah, it's entertaining. Dislike Brighton's kits, they look like toothpaste blobs
I heard it called that the first time on the Five Year Plan (Palace Podcast) last year, and it seems to have originated there -- and taken off to describe the match. If you google it, you'll see it called that, but only recently.

He could be a legend if he can stick around. It's only been 5 games and I'm ready for them to pay whatever it costs to get him. I loved Loftus-Cheek, and he was the best Chelsea loanee up until now, but Gallagher has been incredible.

Edit: he is going to miss every 6th game for accumulation though.

I wish that sides using a goofy color for away/third kits would at least make the shorts a plain contrasting color like black, it wouldn't be so bad

Wow, that hurts. I got a text reading "motherfucker" about 45 seconds before I saw the goal go in. And I thought, "he must be talking about something else." And then...that was the equal of the game last year.

I was thinking for the last ten minutes, I don't see Brighton threatening. They're much improved this season but Palace were tight.

Then there was that.

A neutral would call it karma, candy that's just got to be a kick in the nuts.

Hostilities between the sides on the pitch and between the Brighton players coming off and the Palace fans. Hope there aren't some extracurriculars in the streets around the park tonight.

I knew that precisely because they didn’t deserve it, it was going to happen.

Well, less sympathy from me on this one, candy. :) Just finished the game and yeah that was echoes of last year at the Amex for sure. Brighton missed Bissouma in midfield. Generally defended pretty well but they were challenged to do anything assertive. I'm liking Cucarella so far-- fast and decisive.

Arsenal next.

The Palace -Brighton derby flies under the radar, probably because it’s not driven by proximity like most and people don’t know the story, and maybe because they’re not “big” clubs. But wow, it was intense. The fans were howling and the players were hot at the whistle.

That’s one I’ll have to catch when I make the trip over. Maybe check out the boardwalk where Sting rode his Vespa into a riot.
