Stafford can go fuck himself. I picked him in my DraftKing lineup today. My other picks were pretty legit, Bradshaw, Cobb, Lacey, Golden Tate, but Stafford crushed me. Alshon Jeffery, too. Damn shame.

Also that's why you take the extra point when you are down two with 13 minutes to go.

Edit: LOL, MM
Gonna have to attempt and convert either way. Better to know you failed earlier.

So can both Gio Bernard and Mohammed Sanu. They killed me today in draftkings.

See, it's better for Seattle to know it has to hurry than play to run the clock down at the ene down 8, since a conversion failure means game over. Now they can score a TD and at least get a chance to onsides it.

Yeah, that's much better, having to score twice is always preferable to having to score once.

No wrong. We are assuming a missed conversion.

And they'd still need to convert a 2 pointer.  What's magical about attempting it later?

EDIT - And why are we assuming a miss on the first attempt?  If they get it, they're down 7 here.

Because the argument is "that's why you should do it later." I'm just saying a miss is a miss, and it's better for the miss to happen earlier so that the coach knows how to plan the rest of the game.

And I love Brian Hoyer, but much as I root for him -- and I do think he's a perfectly mediocre guy, overall -- he's just not that good.

I completely agree, Ed.

Basically, your goal is to maximize your chances of winning the game, not maximize your chances of remaining within one possession at all times.  The latter doesn't necessarily track the former.  The "extend the game" mentality manifests itself in conservative fourth down decisions as well.

You might not need to every go for 2 at all depending on how they rest of the game plays out. But the mathematical expectation is so close to even between going for it and kicking the XP that I find it tough to criticize a "go for two" decision except in extreme circumstances.

Too bad Carolina was too inept on offense to make GB play.

That game isn't over yet in St. Louis.  They will probably get the ball back with about 40 seconds left if the Rams don't get a first down, and I think they can get into field goal position with Haushka pretty easily.
