There are a disturbing amount of people in this game thread watching PSU-OSU. That's like the eighth most interesting sporting event going on right now.

Not if you loathe Ohio st

(also, my wife went to psu so my usual control over the remote is forfeited)

Edit: while psu isn't so relevant right now, I always love watching their white out games. it's one of the louder stadiums I've been to - amazing scene

Listening the the WS, flipping between LSU-Ole Miss and OSU-PSU.

Penn State should consider playing another QB. Hackenberg is really quite awful.

Anybody? For 40-odd years I believed a fair catch no longer applied after the ball hit the ground.
I think that's the rule in the NFL, but in college it cannot be advanced if any type of signal is given. (The LSU player was waiving people off.)

NCAA rule 8 1 c

A valid or invalid fair catch signal deprives the receiving team of the opportunity to advance the ball. The ball is declared dead at the spot of the catch or recovery or at the spot of the signal if the catch precedes the signal.

NFL

If ball hits ground or is touched by member of kicking team in flight, fair catch signal is off and all rules for a kicked ball apply.

Thanks. The ball bounced after the signal (not a fair catch signal, but this crew is challenged enough to nitpick about that) and was then fielded. That's neither a catch nor a recovery.

I guess I'll peruse the NCAA rulebook link you provided to see how they define "catch." Their definition could include fielding a kicked ball that has already touched the ground prior to being fielded.

Whether or not it was a valid fair catch signal is irrelevant. Any arm waiving (even below the helmet) is enough to constitute an invalid signal and the receiving team forfeits their ability to advance the ball. The rule applies to both catches and recoveries of any variety.

So, it's making me somewhat miserable at the moment, but the Auburn-South Carolina game merits your attention. Unless, of course, you like defense.

Auburn needs a hypnotherapist to convince them that they are the underdog in every game. South Carolina is making bold choices and having them work every time.

You know what? I've been looking through that rulebook far too much for something I care so little about. Still not sure that a fair catch applies to a ball that bounced, but the truth of the matter has lost my interest. Thanks for the link, though.

Ole Miss is in big trouble now.  LSU just pounding them on this drive, and about to have first and goal at the 3

LSU's o-line is obliterating Ole Miss' d-line. LSU takes a 10-7 lead late in the 4th.

Lots of Mississippi scalpers are pissed off.

Great drive from LSU. Ole Miss in trouble with their offense not showing much.

And what the hell, the defender ripping the face mask off the helmet, that's incredible.

It's really hard to win at Death Valley at night.

Mississippi State too will probably lose at least a game, so cancel plans for the vaunted historic Egg Bowl.

They may lose one at Bama.    I'd be stunned if they lose at hoem to Arkansas.  And the other 2 games are complete layups (Tenn MArtin and Vandy)

Incredibly poor coaching job by Ole Miss today.  Just horrible
