Well not only was Brady missing - Gronk, Solder, and Mason were too. Fleming started at tackle that game and Karras at guard
True, although every team loses players along the way and has to play with backups.

I guess the question is, if the rest of the AFC is really as bad as Red suggested ... how can you get a true read of how good the Pats are?

The short answer is they only have to be as good as they need to be to be the best in a weak conference. And that may well be enough.

I personally think the whole league sucks. The Pats play Seattle next week so there will be one benchmark. I guess Dallas is a threat

Well, that's the thing. If everyone sucks, then doesn't it mean almost nobody sucks?(except for the teams that actually suck, like the Jets and Cleveland)

This might be the worst week of games I can remember, thus far. It does seem like everyone but NE, DAL, and maybe Denver sucks.

My takeaway from today: the rest of the AFC is godawful except for maybe Denver but only if their D is playing at a truly elite level.
I attended the first half in Baltimore and listened to the rest on the drive home. I would not count on Ben being anywhere this bad -- or should I say lame? -- when he plays next month or the month after.

Not only did I not see Ben step into a throw the entire first half -- I saw precious few plays in which he could have stepped into one. They were dinking and dunking, and running on passing downs and distances. I don''t need a lot of guesses why.

Apologies if this has been noted upthread but I wonder if Collins enjoyed the "family feeling" of a 35-10 home loss.

Ben also rushed for a TD, diving across the line.

So, apparently, Chip Kelly has said he won't bolt the 49ers for a college job.

Of course, that depends on whether he's one and done in SF

I would add ATL to the mix; BC's own Matty Ice is thus far having a career year.

They just gave Tennessee the ball after the measurement showed them short. New levels of ineptness being reached today. TD on the very next play.

Missed the 1st 3 quarters,

how does GB only have 13 points against this putrid Colts defense?

And a hold and a personal foul offset? Makes sense.

I don't think Seattle will do very well next week coming off of a short week with a lot of key guys out or hobbled.

If you're going take valuable practice time to try cornball plays like the rabona onsides or the fake conversation quick kick that the Rams just pulled you better fucking execute.

Seems like GB's issue is a lack of playmakers. They've got nobody beyond Jordy. Rodgers has had plenty of time to throw, but seems like he stands back there for 5/6 seconds and then just heaves it when nobody gets free.

They should also probably have run more early. 5.6 YPC, but only 13 carries (excluding Rodgers scrambles).

Right, much better to devote all that practice time to the straight onside kick that dribbles two times then takes the high hop at exactly the 10-yard restraining line.

San Diego - Tennessee score is like one from when the Chargers had John Hadl, Lance Alworth, Paul Lowe and Keith Lincoln and were playing maybe the Jets.

He's as bad as Simms
I really think there's a shelf life for these guys in modern times. Madden was the exception -- in no small measure because he was willing to say when a team proved him wrong about what he would have done.

Simms can't get his ego out of the way, while Fouts is one of those guys frozen in time -- unlike, say, Aikman, who doesn't try to relive his glory days in the booth

Totally agree. Fouts used to be good. Simms was solid. I remember how good Dierdorf was before he started believing his own reviews. Only a few remain good for a long time.

There are no real good analysts anymore. Collinsworth is still probably the best, but it is a very low bar.

I never thought I'd say it, but I think I'd take Aikman over anyone right now (maybe not Collinsworth... but it's close). He's not great, but he's consistent and does a good job breaking plays down without stupidly sticking to his guns when he's wrong.

Depends what you want. Simms voice and energy is way better than Collinsworth. Collinsworth is preachy, goofy, and more insightful.

Gannon is alright. He takes bad qb play as a personal affront, so that's always good for a laugh.
