A Lost Time
so yesterday, I got an a mail from google informing me that someone tried to log into my email account from Ohio and that I should change my password.

Only trouble is that the email they sent a notice about was an aol email account.

Normally, this would be a fishing attack, but the google email address and the google web page I am pointed to seem legit.

I still think it's some kind of fishing attack, but wtf? Anyone have any ideas? I think I might have used that aol account as a backup for a google account, but that's the only relevant tidbit I can think of.

I think you should eat it raw. Worst case, it's a bad mushroom and you die.

(In all seriousness, I would log onto your google account through normal means and see if anything is amiss.... do not click any links in that email).

If you log into GMail, there's a small "Details" link at the lower-right corner that will show you your log-in activity for that account. Might be helpful in this situation.

Thanks everyone. I logged in the two gmail addresses I use, I did not see any suspicious activity. There's a third one I set up a long time ago, I don't even remember the exact screename I used. FWIW, this is the email I got:

Hi,

Someone just used your password to try to sign in to your Google Account *******@aol.com.

Details:
Thursday, September 21, 2017 5:30 PM (ET)
Columbus, OH, USA*

Google stopped this sign-in attempt, but you should review your recently used devices:

REVIEW YOUR DEVICES NOW
The address it links me to is

https://accounts.google.com/AccountChooser?Email=*******@aol.com&continue=https://myaccount.google.com/device-activity?rfn=5&rfnc=1&eid=1631406450825391012&et=0&asae=2

The email came from Google <no-reply@accounts.google.com>.

I put asterisks in place of my aol screename for obvious reasons.

Seems legit right?

On top of that, I just checked all of my google accounts and I don't have this aol address set up as backup. Perplexing.
