So, I'm no NBA rules expert, but it sure looks like both Harden and Dort touched that ball at the exact same time, meaning it should be a jump ball, right? Dort got more of it because of his position, but replay shows them both touching it simultaneously.

After seeing the refs forget that back court exists until reminded a few minutes ago, I'm curious how deep they're going on these replays...
Well, technically, yeah,

So the Rockets win game 7 on two defensive plays by Westbrook, and one huge blocked three pointer by Harden.

A play for Adams isn’t the worst idea in a vacuum if it’s a lob to the rim...but why the fuck was he running out to the 3-point line? And why was SGA the inbounder given that he’s one of their better shooters?

The announcers are kidding themselves that anybody will remember this game for anything other than both teams trying their hardest to choke it away.

“Offensively I played like shit!”
Only way a CP3 vs Harden/Westbrook game 7 could end.

I guess Chris Paul wasn’t built for that last possession, because he made a half hearted attempt to get open.

I honestly wouldn’t have put Adams in for the exact reason as what we saw play out. Chances are you have a rushed perimeter shot and no time for a putback. Very difficult to execute that lob play. Give me another shooter over Adams.

Either run something toward the rim, or force the ball to Paul and have him flop his way to the FT line. With either one, it puts the pressure on the refs to make a call

Yeah, he really didn’t show up today or in this series.
So I just checked the play log. Paul entered a one possession game with 3:51 left. He managed only one shot, a seven footer he missed, turned the ball over once, and got a couple of defensive rebounds.

Don’t crow about being built for this big moment, mention that others aren’t, and then disappear in the last 3:51 of a one possession game 7.

He meant losing in the early rounds of the playoffs. He was born for that shit.

Marc Davis and Scott Foster really made differences tonight. Fortunately the latter couldn't gift the game to OKC.

35 year old CP3 dragged a middling roster to a first round game seven and puts up a triple double while playing the second most minutes of anyone tonight. And he is getting slander? Its insane - I love SGA and Schroder is fun offensively however neither is a bucket getter in crunch time. Houston really only had to slow Paul down - and they did so tonight. He earned the right to talk crap about Harden and the Rockets.

You can’t slander someone with the truth. Chris Paul disappeared in crunch time in a game 7. Maybe the credit should go to the Rockets, who aggressively hedged the high PnR with two long armed players, but OKC was in the bonus, and Paul needed to be more forceful off the dribble to try to create or draw fouls.

I love dumping on Paul's history of failure in the playoffs as much as the next guy, but he's 35 years old and just put up a 19 point triple double in a game 7. At that age only Lebron should be counted on to carry his team beyond what Paul did tonight. The refs swallowing their whistles in those crazy final minutes hurt 6'1 Paul more than anyone else. They won so we don't have to dwell on it, but no one is luckier than James Harden that OKC couldn't pull off the upset. Always fun to watch that guy shit his pants in an elimination game.

Paul played a very good game and series but dude front rimmed an 8 footer with 45 seconds left and couldn’t get open when it mattered most. Harden played like crap all game but made the play of the game at the end.

It’s not slander to suggest that Paul had a poor finish to the game. It’s also true that he played a mostly superb game up until that point although he did have 6 turnovers.

For sure, I just don't think it's fair to connect this loss with his playoff failures from the last dozen years. What he did this year (and in this series, including tonight) at his age are remarkable.

Yeah, that sounds like CP3 trying to turn some banter into a procedural violation to lobby his way to a win.

I, for one, am shocked.

As a neutral observer tonight, I was just bummed out. The refs are not the product and every year my love for the game shrinks because it just isn’t officiated correctly or evenly. The my had a chance to blow it up and start over with the Donaghy stuff but it’s the same faces making the same bogus calls year in year out

This is a problem for the league for a variety of reasons. It also seems obvious which is why Scott Foster trends on Twitter even without CP3 trying to outgrift him. His ongoing employment by the league is one of mankind's greatest mysteries.

I think the league just really appreciates his growth mindset.

It's not every referee who's open to learning on the fly about obscure rules like "backcourt violations".

Finally got a chance to watch 4Q of Miami-Milwaukee...man, what an almost choke-job from Miami. The Middleton 3-point call was a joke, and the Giannis foul call was awful, but Mathews clearly fouled Butler on the hand-check, so right result for the wrong reasons.

Aside from that, Miami pretty clearly looks like the better team in this matchup. Really interested to see whether Bud has anything up his sleeve, but I don't see anything immediately, and "Bud finding a big adjustment" is a pretty bleak scenario.

Agreed. If you're a Bucks fan, I'm not sure how much silver lining you can find thus far. It's not like Miami is benefiting from insanely hot shooting or anything, they shot 38% from 3 for the season, and they shot 39% from 3 in Game 1 and 38% in Game 2. Butler was pretty bad in Game 2 while Giannis went to the free throw line 13 times and Middleton went 12. Brook Lopez is shooting 63% from three during this series thus far. I'm not really sure where they can really improve. Both teams are just doing what they do and Miami has been in control for most of these two games. Feels like they can only win if Miami goes cold from 3 and the refs ref them into wins, which wouldn't surprise me.

I’ll be honest, I’m rooting for the Bucks to go home not just for the Celtics, but so that I never have to hear about their “historically great” point differential again.

Enjoy those November 30-point whompings of Orlando, bros.

If you were Bud would you start out with Giannis at center? Force Bam to risk foul trouble against him and try to increase your quickness defensively. Would look better if they still had Brogdon but I don’t see another adjustment worth trying. Lopez hasn’t been bad but his 32 minutes feels like a lot.

Don’t forget the (presumably) improved odds of Giannis forcing his way out of Wisconsin’s frozen tundra and into the warm embrace of Steph Curry.

What can they offer for Giannis that will even approach what the LAC traded for a lesser player in Playoff P? I've seen this around, but it just doesn't make sense to me. The Minnesota pick might be nice, I guess, but this year's pick really doesn't have a ton of value IMO.

SRN will now attempt to convince you that, actually, Andrew Wiggins isn't the worst contract in the league.

The Warriors using Wiggins plus their pick to acquire Giannis, Hayward and Simmons instantly places Bob Myers in the tier of somewhat competent executives. I can't believe nobody thought of this before.

Does he really have to force his way out? If he's willing to play one more year with the Bucks he's a free agent in 2021 and can pick whatever team he wants. (Then again I guess you could have said the same thing about AD.)

To your point, I guess it just depends on how much he values that extra boatload of money that the Bucks can give him.

Maybe Coach Bud needs to tell Giannis that barring foul trouble, he is not leaving the floor at any point unless it is a stupid blowout. You have the two-time NBA MVP only playing 35 minutes last night. Your playoff life is in serious jeopardy, and your all world talent is missing a full quarter of basketball. I would also hope that Giannis demands to be out there more. This is why you do load management during the regular season, to empty your tank during the post-season.

Man, I just reread my post and I would encourage you to read it in Hubie Brown's voice.

Here's the pool interview with Marc Davis following MIL-MIA game: https://official.nba.com/pool-report-on-two-calls-in-the-final-minute-of-tonights-heat-bucks-game/.

One the Dragic foul:

QUESTION: What warranted a foul on Khris Middleton’s 3-point attempt with 4.3 seconds left?
DAVIS: On Dragic’s play, he doesn’t allow him the space. After he begins his upwards shooting motion he doesn’t allow Middleton the space to land and the contact by Dragic’s torso to Middleton’s knees is illegal, upsetting his balance, thus being deemed an illegal act and shooting foul.
QUESTION: On that, Dragic argued hands were straight up but that doesn’t have any impact?
DAVIS: Correct, because his torso contacts Middleton’s knees upsetting his balance and he’s a shooter until he comes all the way back down to the floor.

On the Giannis foul:

QUESTION: What warranted a foul on Jimmy Butler’s buzzer-beating attempt?
DAVIS: Similarly, Butler begins his upwards shooting motion and releases the shot prior to the expiration of the period. This makes this a legal field goal attempt. He must be allowed the space to land and Giannis contacts him with his left hand on his torso and I felt like it affected his balance and did not allow him the space to land in a normal basketball position. As a result I judged this to be a shooting foul.

I can almost accept that on the Giannis foul. He pushed Butler while Butler was still in the air.
In real time, it looked like Middleton jumped forward. On replay not so much. But i'm still not convinced that Dragic moved in on him either after Middleton went up. There was contact, but I dont think it was a foul.

Wiseman, Wiggins, MIN 2022-23, GS 2022, 2024, Paschall, a lifetime supply of sourdough bread, real burritos, and Humboldt’s finest...

Or replace Wiggins with Draymond if the Bucks don’t want to commit to a full rebuild.

Likely dependent on how much hardball Giannis wants to play in terms of refusing to play and/or limiting his list of destinations.

I’d probably take that package over what NOP got for Davis and SA got for Kawhi plus Green.

Now if Toronto offers up Siakam, and Giannis is cool with living in Canada, yeah, that’s tough to beat. But from Giannis’ perspective, Toronto puts him in a similar spot to Milwaukee, with no other top shelf superstars. Plus, IIRC, beyond Giannis’ closeness with Steph, his in-laws are all in CA.

As far as Wiggins’ “worst contract in the NBA” ... sure, the age 25-27 seasons of a great athlete who puts up 20 ppg, guards 1-4, gets along with everyone, doesn’t need the ball, and never gets hurt is the worst albatross in the league. You should ask Ainge and Stevens if they’d prefer John Wall.

Before this series, Giannis hadn't played even 35 minutes in a game since March. He averaged barely 30 mpg this year, and hasn't played over 38 minutes since November. He hasn't played so much as 39 minutes in a single game all year long. There's load management, and then there's not preparing your players to be ready for the type of minutes necessary to win with a shorter rotation. I think the Bucks have flown dangerously close to the latter here.

Sit Lopez for whom? It can't be Marvin Williams, as he and GA have (according to this article), when playing together, a -28.4 net rating and have allowed 122.6 points per 100 possessions to the Heat.

And neither of Connaughton or DiVinenczo has offered much in the first two games.

I suppose MIL could go GA, Middleton, Matthews, Bledsoe, and Hill but Hill is the primary ballhandler for the second unit plus what's Lopez going to be like on defense if he's not playing with GA?

Haven't followed MIL at all but anyone else find it strange that Ilysova hasn't played at all in this series?

While GA was in foul trouble somewhat the first half, I was really befuddled when he came out at 7:28 of 4Q and MIL down 9. I know he was only out for about 90 seconds and MIL managed to cut into the lead, but I agree, he's got to play there.

It was very clear that Middleton was moving forward—not disputable at all. I agree there was small upper body movement from Dragic. But by rule, that upper body only movement is not a foul when the offensive player is also moving. We had exact same discussion in Celts Sixers series on a drive. It was simply a blown call.

The Middleton call was atrocious, and the call against Giannis that followed was as clear a makeup call as you will ever find. Yes, Giannis puts his hand on Butler's hip but he doesn't DO anything with it. He touches him and Butler simply does the stupid fall-when-you-land-on-a-jumpshot-hoping-to-get-a-call move. Obviously it worked. But both calls were absolute travesties.
