We all listen to this right? I mean, it’s long, and I miss episodes here and there, but I think it’s fucking brilliant. I need that program in my life.

BBC 5 Live's Up All Night World Football Phone-in is the best answer to "why do you watch sports."

It stopped showing up in my podcast feed a while back, and I couldn't hunt it down again. Dotun and Tim started a Brazilian Shirt Name Podcast, but I haven't listened. It always cheers me up (at least, whenever Dotun is hosting).

I don't know what it is. Can you say more?
Ah, yeh, sorry. Probably not a great opening post. I guess it answered my first question.

WFPI is a late night call in show hosted by Dotun Adebayo, a BBC late nigh presenter who is a pleasant, gentle, larger than life man with an infectious laugh and personality. Every week features two panel members, one of whom is always Tim Vickery, an English ex-Pat who’s been living in Rio for 25 years covering football. Tim is charming, urbane, and knows more about South American football than anyone not from that continent. The rotating 2nd host is from one of the other continents, and Dotun, with help from callers and emailers (both regular and not), leads us all through 2+ hours of culture, philosophy, and humanity, anchored around the world’s game. And it’s funny.

Also, you won’t be able to help yourself and you will dance (in some fashion) to the opening song every time.

I suppose I wanted to start an appreciation thread.

They stopped for a bit during the pandemic. The Brazil show is good, but not as good. WPFI is back on mondays now. Resubscribe

Edit: Gleason was on a Brazil Shirt Show recently- they were discussing Nigeria’s 1996 Olympic win. Great episode.

So "world football" - I'm going to guess big 5 Euro leagues, South American, international, transfer news, whatever newsworthy items get surfaced from the other European leagues, Asia, Africa, MLS etc.?

It covers it all. It’s not really a news show- they’re not going to break down Spurs/City or whatever. It’s more an open conversation about the bigger picture of things. This week is a good example- it’s ostensibly about fans returning to stadiums at some point next year, but it’s more.

Someone on here posted a throw away line about the show being mandatory and I’ve been hooked since.
