What Can/Should NY Do?

It would be hard to imagine a better scenario having come together for the Yankees. They got very good talent without giving up the farm and then don't play a good team for two weeks (Marlins, Orioles, Mariners, Royals until Aug. 12, when they face the ChiSox).
Your point stands, but the Mariners are actually pretty good.

Wow, I just noticed NY's day/night splits, they play like the Orioles during the day (14-25, BAL is 12-28) and the Dodgers at night (41-23, LAD are 45-30).

Fewest career at bats per HR, active players (min. 1500 AB)

12.6 Joey Gallo
13.2 Aaron Judge
13.7 Gary Sanchez
14.1 Giancarlo Stanton
14.2 Matt Olson

Only Stanton has enough career PAs so far to qualify for the BR list, but all four Yankees there are in the top 9 alltime:

Mark McGwire 10.6
Babe Ruth 11.8
Joey Gallo 12.6
Barry Bonds 12.9
Aaron Judge 13.2
Jim Thome 13.7
Gary Sanchez 13.7
Ralph Kiner 14.1
Giancarlo Stanton 14.1

Cashman on MLB radio saying they had around 15 calls going back and forth on Gallo trade options in February and March but they rejected his final offer at that time.

Also, Cashman making it very clear in this interview that Boone controls the lineup, game time decisions, and how he manages the team day to day. I’ve listened to a lot of Cash interviews, he isn’t usually so blunt about that. “We’ll see how Boone wants to build the lineup once we get back to NY.” Feels like a lot language you use for a manager who you’re trying to separate yourself from.

Interesting. That sounds like a bunch of pushback against the idea that the front office has been meddling. Which is good. But also that there has been a strong perception that the front office has been meddling. Which is less than good.

Yea, if you have sirius you can rewind and listen. Wasn't really any room for interpretation about who is making the lineups and managing the game. It was right after the Voit trade questions.

"Last night Gallo 2, Rizzo 4, I wonder in terms of lineup how much your analytical department is involved in running the formulas for each pitcher."

Cash "Aaron has at his disposal our internal system like everyone else does and we have an analyst on staff, Zack Piero, that he can engage but ultimately he does the lineup and formulates it how he sees fit." "I'm not involved in the lineup or how he does it." "Obviously you also factor in the personal conversations he's having with the players." "I don't know how it's going to be deployed"

Said it was the same for Torre & Girardi too.

My guess is Cashman probably feels like he did his job and filled a couple holes that Boone and his coaching staff were complaining about, I.e. left-handed power hitters. So now the ball is in the manager’s court. I think you could say the baseball people got what they wanted. Put up or shut up. Plenty of time left to get back in the race, especially with the Rays and Red Sox having 11 more games left against each other. And if they miss the playoffs, it’s on Boone.

The front office sends Boone a ‘suggested lineup’ every day, and he tweaks it based on his conversations with players about how they’re feeling.

Luis Gil is not ready for the bigs, but he did pitch six no-hit innings two games ago in AAA, NY is desperate, and he is already on the 40 man. According to his Instagram, he is being called up, exciting!

This is how many guys had to be out before Gil got a chance this year: Severino, Kluber, Schmidt, King, German, Cole, plus Deivi has taken himself out of consideration for now by being consistently awful.
