I love shenanigans, but that crew just isn't that funny. That said, I actually think some lightheartedness + Bill dropping knowledge every 7 minutes or so looks like a recipe for excellent tv so I support the McAfee pairing at least a bit.
Yeah, this is fair. I think if they ditched the Kiper guy and the Boston guy and just had Pat, Bill, Hawk and Darius Butler (I think that's who it was) it would've been better. And whatever the magic thing was. Bill does have good chemistry with McAfee and while I'm not the biggest McAfee fan I think he can draw the best out Bill in terms of serious football talk and the humor/shenanigans.

It's definitely an image thing on Bill's side, get him in a less than serious role where he can data dump his massive football knowledge, work in funny and interesting stories from his extensive vault, and essentially show the world he's not a grumpy curmudgeon.

The real issue honestly is... that's what the McAfee show is right? I mean it's a show in which a bunch of idiots shout and make dumb jokes that has a target audience of dumb guys. Oh you might get the occasional interesting football bit (mostly special teams) or guest, but the core of the show is basically a 3 hour long sports radio meets WWE promo.
Bill is a weird fit for the show, but also perhaps the thought is... audiences might not be interested in 4 hours of Bill talking about football.... the sickos will be, but not a big enough group. But the sickos might sit through the garbage, and the garbage keeps the dumb guy audience.

I don't like McAfee. I'll be happy watching the clips with BB this season rather than sitting through the show.

Imagine Mad Mel replaced by Julian Edelman, that would be something. I think BB and JE would be really, really great in a setting like last night.
Replace Mad Mel with Edelman or really anyone who's not awful, get rid of the stupid Boston fan in a mullet with anyone who's not awful and just forget the dumbass in the cowboy hat exists and cut all those segments, it'd be perfect!

Unfortunately people who love PMS think those guys are great. I made it through the 3rd pick and had such a headache from it, I went back to ESPN.

Edit: I don't watch the show, but is Pat McAfee anything but a starfucker and suck up? For how cool and edgy he wants to come off, does he actually challenge or push his guests or make them uncomfortable? If he does, great, but he seems like such a safe guy who just hangs out with his friends.

It's the eight man panel that never makes sense to me.
I had less of a problem with it because Pat and Bill took up about 75% of airtime (other than the ads). That was pure Bill porn last night -- in-depth film breakdown, stories about Bergen HS football games, guest after guest sharing their deepest thoughts about how incredible Bill is. I think AJ Hawk said about 100 words total last night.

Summary for those of us who don’t want to watch 8 minutes of Goodell’s face?
They read questions from cards McAfee put together. Discussed officiating, kickoff rule, the draft among other things. Bill was awesome, it was of course incredibly bizarre seeing them together doing this breezy thing (I think Goodell is weirdly getting slightly less odious … but maybe it was the painkillers for his back surgery).

Bill pushed him on the sideline/goal line/end line cameras!

Softball question to Goodell to comment about the excitement of the NFL draft. Discussion about banning hip drop tackles, new kickoff rules (Bill says defense coaches are probably not in favor), NFL officiating, then another softball about why the NFL is so great.

The officiating got some laughs from both, and Bill and Roger backed the Shield here. However, Bill at least mentioned making the officials full time for consistency, saying that he's dealt with inconsistency in the past, and then Bill made his pitch for cameras on the goal line.

It's known that Bill can grudge with the best of them (Hello Tom Jackson and Charley Casserly...) so my assumption is that the Goodell bridge is not worth burning in his eyes. That's what's best for the team (BB) despite the history. Maybe there's also a bit of keep your enemies close in play. Who knows? Maybe it was always business, Sonny, and not personal.

At any rate, it's weird to watch and I agree with VE above in that there's a bit less odiousness to Goodell.

BB sure dodged a pulled in Atlanta. They're not good enough for him.

Per the attached from ESPN.com,
  1. the Atlanta front office felt Penix was the #2 QB propect* in the draft (so screw them, they're morons),
  2. Arthur Blank was very influential in steering the team to select Penix with the eighth pick in the draft in the name of "Quarterback Stability" (so screw him, he's just another meddling unqualified buttinsky), and
  3. Raheem Morris reviewed the scouts' opinion and signed off (so screw him, he's apparently just toadying to his new bosses).
The Michael Penix Jr. pick has befuddled front offices around the league. Here's a bit of context behind the pick:

Word began to spread in NFL circles on the Saturday before the draft that the Falcons loved Penix, to the extent that he ranked as high as their No. 2 overall quarterback in the draft. On April 5, Falcons brass flew from Atlanta to Seattle to watch Penix throw for a few hours in a private setting, then turned around and flew home. That tells a lot.

Owner Arthur Blank looms large here. I'm told he fully endorsed long-term stability at the position, which Kirk Cousins, at age 35, cannot satisfy to the same degree. Blank had two quarterbacks -- Michael Vick and Matt Ryan -- controlling his offense for the better part of two decades. Blank is not used to the QB carousel.

I do think the coaching calendar played a factor in Atlanta's decision to sign Cousins even while continuing to scout quarterbacks in the draft. By the time Raheem Morris was hired and fleshed out his staff, the Falcons were pressed against free agency. Cousins was viewed as a sure thing. But the final four to six weeks before the draft is when coaches put their stamp on draft scouting, which helps explain why Morris and his staff would also zero in on Penix.
This is my year of hate for the Falcons. Thank God BB didn't wind up in that piece of shit organization. Worse than Birmingham City FC.

* - I distinguish #2 QB from "#2 QB Prospect". I don't know enough about QB evaluation to confidently say Penix is a worse QB than all but one of Williams, Daniels, Maye, and Nix. But I do feel pretty damn confident a 24-year-old QB with an injury history is not the #2 QB prospect to fill a bench slot behind a competent veteran you just gave $100 million to.

If you think he's that good you probably think another team(s) thinks he's that good?
Rumor was the Raiders, Seahawks, and Saints wanted him. I do. FWIW he was my QB4 and the CBB had him something like QB5 and 32 overall. CBB: Maye was QB2, 4th overall. Daniels was QB3 and 8th overall. JJM was QB4 and 22nd overall. I think Nix was somewhere in the 36-45 range but he wasn’t too far off from Penix. You typically see QBs go a half round to a round above their slot especially if they are viewed as top 30ish guys. Here the big surprise was Nix but even then he was expected to go top 50. Most folks had all of these guys gone by the late 30s.
Most years if the rumor is up to X go in the first round then it is usually X-1. This year we heard 4-6 and nearer to the draft there was a lot of smoke about all 6 could go. Thing is we hear that shit a lot and most of the time it’s just a smokescreen. This year it wasn’t.

I should probably look into it but it feels like more QBs are going early in round 1 since 2017ish to now vs the last 10 before that. This is just my guess. Vibes. I’ll try and see if there has been a difference later. My guess is we saw more round 1 guys on average and not as many day 2 guys on average compared to 2007-2016. I could be completely wrong here.

Not to derail the BB thread but Pardon My Take had Peter Schrager on last week and he pointed out that Penix might get a big head start on Cousins during camp while the latter is still working his way back. There's a scenario where Cousins is a highly paid backup.

To be clear the pick made little sense for the Falcons but I think he was in the right pick zip code (people should not judge him based on just the championship game - his intermediate throws aren't as bad as advertised though they aren't a strength either).

I don't have any idea what Penix career will look like but his arm talent and competitiveness are his strengths. That's typically bullish for a decent NFL career.

if u want bill back in the NFL
its Dallas or bust
philly will always have roseman
and NYG does not want him higher ups

unless Denver goes 1-16 2-15 the waltons just say F it and lets bill gets shula rec
denver has a history of letting their coaches be gm

if bill was 5 years younger he couild just wait peyton out because peyton most likely only will coach 3-4 more years unless nix is a top 10 qb

and u notice bill signed with p manning company manning is a higher up in to broncos org

basiccy unlees jerry jones pulls back and let bill do anything

if u want bill back u need denver to have the num 1 pick in 25

Wow, Bill ripped a page out of the RKK playbook and set it on fire.

I think the odds of Bill being in that Ring camera video just increased.

On the one hand, these are two consenting adults, so who are we to judge?

On the other hand, this really feels like a "just because you can doesn't mean you should" situation.

On both hands, this really feels like a "Mark Davis is having a child with a 20 year old social media influencer" situation, or whatever that was. But TMZ is getting their website traffic, so good for them.

NY Post has some pics and details too.

https://nypost.com/2024/06/14/sports/bill-belichick-72-is-dating-24-year-old-former-cheerleader/amp/

You only live once. He's been hermetically sealed in NFL World for the last 50 years. Dude has earned the right to whatever tail he wants to chase.

---
One of Hudson’s former cheerleading teammates said Belichick’s love story began when they met on a flight from Boston to Florida in 2021, while he was still dating Holliday.

The two bonded over a philosophy project Hudson had been working on and exchanged contact information after landing, according to TMZ.
---

who knew he had that kind of game?

Also, way less creepy than Kraft going to a strip mall handjob salon. The bar to clear is "will this be the butt of late night jokes", and I think he's cleared it.

Oh yeah. I'm sure we'd all hate to get our hands on that at 72 years old and single.

Jesus. I'd have shot my dog to do it at 22.

Bill was interested in Jordon's philosophy project for school? He must have been aroused by her interest in Antisthenes.
I totally want to know what the project was.

Seriously. Not assuming a bad way. What if it’s really cool?

It being called a “project” is a flag, of course. But I’m not even sure what color flag. “Philosophy project”? Like, is she trying to reinvent aesthetics or positivism or something?

He probably saw her reading a Philosophy of Love textbook and misinterpreted it.

Not sure how much it matters, but the woman denies she's ever been in a relationship with Davis and the father of the baby is her boyfriend (who is not Davis)

https://people.com/hayden-hopkins-denies-report-pregnant-raiders-owner-mark-davis-child-8654587

In a post on X, the former Cirque du Soleil dancer wrote, "Reports of Mark Davis being the father of my child are wildly untrue."

Hopkins explained, "I was pictured sitting next to him at a game in 2022 and have endured false rumors of a romantic relationship since. I was just a guest sitting in the owner’s box with other friends."

In a second paragraph, the model wrote, "These continued media stories are negatively affecting what should be my happiest days. Joey and I are excited to welcome our baby in the fall xx."
