How will this development affect sportscasting in the Boston market? Will NBC's new affiliate attempt to lure Joe Amorosino away from WHDH? I'm honestly pretty unfamiliar with his work - he was on TV when I last lived in Boston, but I can't recall much about him at all.

I'm curious as to how a new NBC affiliate will alter things in the area.

NECN/NBC Boston has CSNNE to tap into (and consolidated NECN's sports dept with CSNNE iirc)...they could easily have Mike Giardi or Chris Collins do the sportscast

be funny if Tanguay has to go back doing it

I am surprised WHDH isn't taking CW's primetime programming...their news style fits that demo

I'm bad luck. My best connections to billionaires are the Sumners and Ansins.

If you're a media mogul, stay away from me.

There was another thread about this with some good comments

The thread title needs some work like NBC: WHDH drop dead!

I'm glad WHDH is gone and their BREAKING NEWZ!!!!!! Style. They suck

WHDH is effectively dead now.

A lot of the talent, and I use that term lightly, is already gone and some to NECN like Pete Biuchard who will likely lead the new station in weather.

Outside of their weather department (minus newcomer Danielle Gersh) and Jadiann Thompson (she's won Emmys), the rest of WHDH is pretty terrible. Amorosino, in particular, gets stats and players' names wrong far too often for a station's sports director, IMO.

I know Pete Bouchard is a local celebrity, but both Jeremy Reiner and Dylan Dreyer before him were far better/more accurate with their weather forecasts. So, I see weather actually being a weak link for the new station.

Jadiann Thompson is actually good?

Actually, that's not th case, according to the Hearld. Prepare for an onslaught of 7 News.

"Beginning Jan. 1, Channel 7 will broadcast local news from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., from noon to 1 p.m., from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and from 9 to 11:30 p.m. on weekdays. On weekends, 7News will air from 8 to 11 a.m., 6 to 7:30 p.m. and 9 to 11:30 p.m."

I miss Anne Allred.
She was the best. Every morning she'd fluster Adam Williams by asking him a question that wasn't on book. Then she'd smirk or laugh at him when he'd fumble around for an answer because he can't do anything but read a teleprompter.

Every. Single. Morning.

Danielle Gersh is a treasure.

Who the hell watches local news anymore? Much less local sports and weather?
Sports is useless but I tune in most days for the weather. I like a good 3-4 minute weather forecast where they actually interpret models instead of just throwing up an icon that says "Partly Cloudy". Often when watching they'll say things like "this what the model says, it's likely wrong here and here" etc. in terms of severe storms late or snow etc.

I really don't get much value out of weather apps or accuweather.com / weather.com and their likes. There's just no context to it.

Jadiann has won several Emmys, but that was before coming to Boston/WHDH. She's being used as just another pretty face now, which is a shame.

Danielle Girsh is horrible. There's no need for a traffic girl when live cams and someone simply reading off a list of delays/accidents suffices. Plus she's terrible at reading off the teleprompter. She sounds like she went to the William Shatner School of Diction.

But Pete Bouchard has a giant dick so he's got that going for him.

Ken Fang reports a rumor that NESN wants to place a handful of Red Sox and Bruins games on WHDH in exchange for an equity stake in the channel from Sunbeam.

Of course they're going to do this because it just makes sense.

You have to find time for more Mad Fisherman with Charlie Moore or the other hours and hours of award-winning NESN programming.

Maybe they move the NESN+ games along with a few more? The return of Sgt. Friday?

Wow. High quality programming lined up on WHDH.

Should have let Comcast just buy them out.
Biggest mistake by the owner of the station Ed Ansin. His station will be worth nothing when rating drops on the news coverage because they have no affiliation and no new tv shows.

Maybe we can bring the old TV 38 gang back together: Reruns of MASH, The Odd Couple and Hogan's Heroes. The Movie Loft with Dana Hersey, assuming he's still with us. And, of course, Ask the Manager!
Only drawback is that the games run longer than they used to and there won't be as many Stooges fill-ins at the end of them (always seemed fitting when the Sox played a stinkeroo to follow it up with a Stooges short).

But, it was hilarious last night. At the bar, the ball dropped, and then 2 minutes later infomercials.

If they're going all news and don't have a national partner how are they going to cover national news?

I'm guessing they can't just steal other channels news video and show "Courtesy of ...." all the time?

So 4, 5 and Fox all had news on at 7AM today, while THE NEWS CHANNEL WHDH had some syndicated kids' science show. And 4:30AM during the week they rebroadcast the night before newscast while the others are live.
