Henry saying when you tackle with your right leg and the ball comes off your left it is a deflection not an intent to play. I guess I get that and he would know. But if you try to play a ball with your head and it hits your chest is that not really an intent to play the ball?

I think Alisson deserves some credit for being so good at one on ones that Benzema (fucking BENZEMA) gave up on the initial play and laid it off.

you mean Canada? I'm not sure any other US news network is doing a special. CBS must have data that their primetime demo is interested in the royal family
Yeah, Canada. I just looked it up to be sure that I didn’t just miss the announcement or something, and found out that monarchists here are in a tizzy because the government isn’t really doing anything for it. So it’s not just the broadcasters here giving it amiss.

So… Here’s the language. It looks like the rule was applied correctly.

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:
gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has:
  • rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar, match official or an opponent
  • been deliberately saved by any opponent
A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball, including by deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an advantage, unless it was a deliberate save by any opponent.
A ‘save’ is when a player stops, or attempts to stop, a ball which is going into or very close to the goal with any part of the body except the hands/arms (unless the goalkeeper within the penalty area).

I counted exactly one cross by Liverpool.

Led directly to a header directly on the goal. It is a wide pitch and going straight at goal has led to some decent just miss counter play by Real Madrid.

So - Benzena was offside by ten fucking feet in the through ball . The flag stays down and Real get the chance when Liverpoool touched the ball. That’s outrageous
Looked on to me… Just watched the replay again. If he was off, it was going to be a millimeter decision.

Reminds me of one a couple years back when the defender mostly whiffed an attempted clearance -- though slightly scuffed it. Ball continued goalward and the offside striker scored it.
Was ruled offside due to no intent. Which was judging the outcome, not the defender's intended intent.

Guys, save your appeals for actual shit to appeal about. Boy who cried wolf and all that. Never a handball.

Oh for fuck sake, Courtois. Don’t fucking embarrass yourself after the match you’ve had. Stay on your fucking feet.

Liverpool need to take the right lesson from the Valencia match and back off on fouls. Madrid are going down under a mosquito’s sneeze.
