I was focused more on the 6 total touches including targets Ekeler had once the LAC went up 27-0. I agree they probably couldn't have just ran it but get the ball into your best players hands especially when you are down to 2 WRs which was much of the game once Carter got hurt.
This is fair, Ekeler should have had more touches.

That has to be an alcohol-induced bet (just like I'm more inclined to make a dumb purchase on-line after I've had a few beers). Even Jeff Bezos wouldn't risk 1.4M to win 11K.
Reminds me of that scene in Marky Mark’s The Gambler where he hits on 19 just because he’s an addict and hates his life.

He definitely gave off a 2001 Summerall vibe on that last Jags drive. The guy who is noted for the making most famous winning call of all time was remarkably flat.
He sounds a little burned out. I mean, he has seen it all. He sounds like my dad got around Al’s age, when it comes to sports. Transitioned from caring to being like, “what’s the fucking big deal, they just do it all again next year”.

This just wasn’t a big deal to him. You watch and call enough sports and eventually you get the one where a team comes back from four TDs because sometimes that happens.

Was this the ”playoffs”? Yeah. It was also a glorified regular season game. It was like the Poulan Weedwacker Independence bowl between the fourth place big 10 and fifth place pac 12 teams. It’s the fucking Jags and Chargers in wild card weekend with expanded playoffs.

It was cool for us. Maybe not for the Miracle on Ice guy. Maybe all that complaining about the Thursday Night games was just that he has lost the love.

That is why those idiotic small odds bets are a boon to the bookies. You need to win 1272 bets in a row at those odds to make up for this loss. That's a lot of bets. Lol.

To put that in layman's terms for people who don't like or cannot understand big numbers, you have to win 10 bets in a row 127.2 times to make up for this loss.

Ekeler had 2 catches for 8 yards. He had 107 receptions this year. And Mike Williams was out. And the Chargers were like, "Nah, let's use this Michael Bandy fellow, he's got promise, especially on an important 3rd and 1 play."

NFL coaches are hilarious when it comes to not using their best players. It is such a stupid and weird flex.

Do you know why Brock Purdy is basically Tom Brady but more handsome? He gets the ball to Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey. Turns out, using your best players is a good strategy.
Not to mention Brandon Aiyuk. 3/73.

There's so much awkward in this quote

"We just didn't play clean enough football in the second half in all three phases," Staley said. "We didn't score the ball or possess it well enough on defense. We had far too many penalties in the second half that really hurt us and didn't play well enough in the red area, didn't perform well there in the two minutes at the end of the game. Just didn't play a good second half of football as a team."

Getting the ball to your best players is just CRAZY enough to work.

This is why the Bengals are great and have been great the past two seasons. Burrow continually forces the ball to Higgins and Chase. Turns out, getting the ball to big and powerful players is a winning idea. Heh.

Was the last time the chargers won a playoff game when they beat the Manning Colts?

I remember that game - it was not expected.

Yesterday Palmer, McKitty(who?) Parham, and Carter had as many or more receptions as Austin Ekeler. Austin Ekeler is in the running for offensive player of the year.

Josh Kelley had more than twice as many carries as Ekeler too. I am truly gobsmacked at this. How does this happen?
It won't happen next year with LAC with Payton.

"We did not score the ball" - that makes no sense - doesn't make sense in basketball when they say it, and less sense in football.

"or possess it well enough on defense." - what does that even mean? Possess it well enough on defense? I have no idea what he was even trying to say there.

To be fair that poster was off by an order of magnitude, the bet was equivalent to wagering $140 to win $1.10, not $0.11

Not really the best year for the young coaches:

McVay – shine comes off, team is incredibly bad, rumors he wants to leave (might still?)

LaFleur – misses the playoffs, Rodgers and him seem to have problems

Hackett – can’t hack it, canned before the season is over

McDaniel – starts strong, mismanages the Tua situation, wheels come off, p much backs into the playoffs

Kliff – team craters after (before, really) giving him and Murray extensions, now headed for at least one night in Bangkok

Staley – loses 27 point lead bc his team doesn’t score the ball or possess it well enough especially in the red area

Literally everyone picked them to kill the Pats. Then it was 35-7 at halftime.
The line was Pats -3.5, so enough of the smart money was right. Also, it's the only time I can ever recall a team hosting a Divisional game with a worse record.

McVay is staying. McVay also has a pretty solid resume. He shouldn't be listed with idiots like Hackett, Kliff, and Staley. LaFleur shouldn't be, either. By that expectation, Belichick should be on that list if McVary and LeFleur are.

Gotta give the Jax D some credit on snuffing Ekeler. I think they did the BB thing of taking away the only big threat the other team had and it worked. They absolutely swarmed him when he got the rock and he had zero room to breathe. With Williams out who else scares you offensively on that team? K Allen is a nice complementary piece but in 2023 he's not going to win you games, so, yeah, shut down Ekeler and the Charger's O isn't at all scary.

Not to excuse Staley at all though; I think he started to panic once Ek got stuffed a handful of times. Zero excuses for not getting him the ball in the passing game. Just a complete coaching meltdown.

Saw a bunch of Dolphins jerseys in the crowd on NFLN. Wonder how many of them are local to Buffalo people and how many traveled up from Florida. Can't imagine leaving the comfort of Miami in January (and I know it's mild there this weekend) to travel to Buffalo to watch your team (likely) lose an opening round playoff game. (Although I do think that Miami keeps this close.)

Holy shit. If you have 1.4m available to bet do you really need to do this to try to win 11k?
I’m always skeptical of these social media bet tweets. Like, how would one even get access to someone else’s bet? Someone at DK is unlikely to leak this. Would be incredibly sad, if true. But the math does check out.

Love a cold weather outdoor game; don’t know how to reconcile that with how nice I think the Vikes stadium looks.

Guys, the sideline reporter said Miami's special teams will be looking to cause a turnover.

So insightful.
Didn’t he say “steal a possession”? I took that to mean he thinks they’ll try something sneaky on special teams like a fake punt.
