I think that’s terribly soft penalty, don’t like seeing them go up on that. Was hoping Rapinoe missed that so they could win this on a legit goal.

California. Duh.
Glad she took control and took that one. Based on what I've seen in the past, anyone but Lloyd or Rapinoe on penalties makes me nervous.

it's not 100% clear to me that she actually made contact, but given the angles it's hard to be sure. She was charging forward into Lavelle and if she made contact, she didn't knock the leg out of its path at all.

I think she probably did, but yikes that's a harsh way to concede there, if Morgan Pinoe buries it.
Lifetime (gametime) achievement penalty is how I'm choosing to accept it

Fuck that. You don't get to take spikes up into someone's leg in the box, even if the ball is heading out of the box. Again, we don't need freaking carnage.

I can't believe Rapinoe is still on this team and starting. Was she on the '99 winning squad?!?
Her first cap was in Oct 2006 in a friendly, first game in a competitive situation was the 2009 Algarve Cup. Graduated college (U Portland) in 2008.

It's the white hair that makes you think that, though.

Lloyd missed last game and I believe in the Olympics in '16 during the shootout loss to Sweden. No one is automatic on such a mind fuck of a play.

Soft or not, she did get her leg. That's a rulebook call.

And I'd argue it was earned a bit more than our keeper and defender gifting Spain their goal.

I'll take 'em however I can get them, but I hope we net two more in the run of play.

Also, that collision on Naeher when she had a clear path to (and right to) the ball should be a yellow. I mean, for christ's sake, ref.

I guess this is one of the interesting things about VAR. That was a corner earned after a clearly offside play. It's reviewable if they score or earn a penalty. But not if they earn a corner on the play off of which they can score.

Definitely some weirdness with the VAR.

The attacker has a right to go for the ball, doesn't she?

It's pink again today.
Sure, in the parts that she's dyed, but she's been basically albino her whole career. She looks a bit older, and has old-players' skills in terms of dribbling and precision. I get it, as far as people assuming she's at the end of her career when she's really in the middle. Plus she hit that cross in 2011 for Wambach at the 122nd minute vs Brazil, so the anchor point in how we all think about her is now almost exactly 8 years old.

Maybe that's your anchor point. it's not mine. And albino? Really? She dyes her hair blond for the most part. Like, say, the third of the Swedish team that isn't naturally blond.

I'll always give Rapinoe the benefit of the doubt, as she's probably* the most famous person from my redneck hometown in Northern California.

* Her biggest competition is probably Jason Sehorn and the girl that played the robot on "Small Wonder".
