I've seen enough of Lavelle today.
She's probably the best passer on the team, and a top-3 dribbler. She made that 40-yard run, and then couldn't find a passing outlet, but she almost made something out of completely nothing.

The complaint about her is that she runs hot and cold, has long cold stretches even within a game. But when we were beasting in that first half, a lot of it was unlocked by Lavelle I thought.

To be honest, anybody who uses the words "proper" and "football" in the same sentence should be fed into the woodchipper, Fargo-style.
If you've ever have the opportunity to explain to an incredulous Brit on why the term "soccer" exists (The British came up with it as an abbreviated form of Association Football, focusing on the 'soc' part of Association and was used without controversy in the UK for 100 years) do not pass it up. It is one of life's great joys.

They need to slow it down a little on offense. Players are tired so the long quick passes are sloppier and can't be run down.

Heath is awesome but sometimes looks like me in FIFA when I play one level too high. I just need an extra split second to make a decision but the ball is already gone

Indeed.

Here's my ranking of obnoxiousness though:

3. Brits who scold Americans for saying soccer
2. Americans who scold Americans for saying soccer
1. People who describe anything soccer-related as "proper". It's a small word, but stuffed to the gills with arrogance and condescension.

California. Duh.

I always point out that every time they hear "football" said with an American accent, they think we are talking about the NFL anyways.

What about describing a touch-tackling midfielder (your Lee Cattermole types) as "proper-hard"?

South of North
O'Hara has been quieter today than against France, but she's still a rock back there. Heath doesn't track back as much as Press and the right flank has been mostly fine.

It's pretty amazing when there's an unfortunate injury for the US, the replacement are players like Press and Mewis.

the USWNT is basically like if the Ronaldo/Ronaldinho/Roberto Carlos etc. Brazil teams were merged with the dominant Spain side, and then added Messi and Christiano Ronaldo

FOX is doing an excellent job of showing pointless closeups instead of a useful replay.

That's a tough call--goal should've stood. There should be a higher standard to overturn.
Eh. Just because it was close, doesn't mean it didn't reach the standard. They didn't even go to the ref to look.

Aren't they using an international feed with their own announcers? Don't know if they really have control of what shots come up on screen.
Could be true. Apologies to Fox if so.

Yelling a Fox is a reflex at this point.
