How awful. I really liked his work, right up through his time writing and podcasting for patriots.com last year. A real loss, and a good man.

Damn. I really liked most of his writing. 56 is so young.

Didn't he just get hired somewhere recently at the Athletic or somewhere to cover Vegas Raiders or something?

Yes, the Vegas newspaper hired him.

Enjoyed Banks. Felt he was a fair writer and in the early dynasty days enjoyed his coverage of the team. Way too young.

Quick edit for a stupid memory: remember him in 03 and 04 writing about the Pats business like approach. He did IIRC predicted the Pats would blow out the Eagles in their first SB meeting. I pasted it on my brother’s door (sibling rivalry).

Damn it. I have enjoyed his work before his time with the Patriots. I did so more once he started his podcast part of the Kraft Network.

I missed his takes on the Patriots once he left. Now he's gone and won't get the chance to have him cover the Raiders either.

R.I.P. and T&P to his family.

Peter King's FMIA column focuses on Banks:

Banks was an NFL lifer. At SI, his Snap Judgments column on Sunday evenings became appointment reading for NFL fans. After an illustrious career at SI ended in 2016, Banks moved on to write about the league for NFL.com, Bleacher Report, Patriots.com and The Athletic. That led to the editors at the Review-Journal, needing a respected national presence to cover the NFL with the Raiders moving to Nevada in 2020, conducting a one-candidate job search. They hired Banks as their NFL correspondent. He started last Thursday, and his first story appeared on the paper’s website just hours before he died.
