One of the 2020 draft picks is playing basketball.

Hapoel Tel Aviv (Madar) are playing Maccabi Haifa

At the end of the 1st, Madar is going full Rondos at 1-3 shooting with 5 assists in 10 minutes (full quarter).

Live stats are here

True degenerates can shell out 5 euro/mo to stream here

He probably never comes over, but it seems worth keeping an eye on his development anyway.

I like Yam but he's definitely a couple of years away. He turns 20 next month but he looks like a high school sophomore; underdeveloped and frail. He's listed at 6"3, 180# but he looks closer to 6', 155#. That said, he's very quick, he's crafty, has a good feel for the game and is a pest with on the ball defense. He's got a funky looking shot, but it more or less works for him and he's an 80% ft shooter. He's a real prospect and I'm rooting for him, but I won't be holding my breath.

For how long do the Celtics retain Yam's NBA rights? Do they have to use him or lose him at some point (so to speak)?

Untill such time as he decides he wants to come over. At which point the Celtics either have to sign him or relinquish his rights.

The Hawks still own the draft rights to Augusto Binnelli.

He was taken with the 16th pick of the 2nd round in the 1986 draft. He's 56 years old.

Semi for Binnelli. Who says no?

If they sign him, is he on the 1986 payscale? Could they do one of these Van Exel deals?

Now I wish Atlanta worked out a sign and trade for Bogdan and included the rights of Augusto Binnelli in the deal. Bring him to a press conference to introduce him as the newest Sacramento King.

Chad Ford made a couple of nominally interesting points regarding Yam on his podcast with Brad Rowland recapping the Celtics draft. First he said that Madar had a lot of interest around the league, and Rowland agreed, then he said that Madar was "insisting" that he's coming over right away. This was before the Tacko and Waters two-ways, so now that those are off the table, it seems certain that he'll stay in Israel, and it also would've required a buyout as he's under contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv for two more years, but it was interesting to hear that he wanted to come over immediately. I play (or used to, in the Time Before) pick up with an Israeli guy who played over there and is still pretty plugged in to Israeli hoops so I'll have to pick his brain if we get back on the court any time soon.

Ford liked the Celtics draft on the basis that he thinks they got two guys who could end up in the rotation immediately, even if he thought the PP pick was a reach.

His passing skills look legit. Shot doesn’t look broken. Celtics may have a contributor in a couple years here.

I wonder if he was "insisting" he was coming over in the hopes of not getting drafted in the 2nd. He probably wanted to be undrafted so he could be a FA when/if he decides to come over.

Yup.

Fwiw, he and his family looked really excited when he got drafted. Seems like the kid (understandably) has his sights squarely set on playing in the NBA.

Good time for my first post in years...

If you are bored this afternoon, you can check out Yam Madar and the Israeli NT playing Spain NT in the Eurobasket Qualifiers right now. Israel Stream Here (it may be delayed) Box Score Here

No NBA or Euroleague players are playing, so no real names you would easily recognize.

The 1st Quarter just ended, Spain leads 27-21. Madar came off the bench (former NBA'er Gal Mekel is starting!) for 4:33, finishing with 2 pts, 1 assist and a steal.

Edit - Madar back on the court quickly as Israel goes down 32-21 to start the 2nd
