Are they sure he didn't just go out to get some Magic City wings with their compliance officer?

Man, I hope he's ok. This is extremely odd, even for Cespedes. Not showing up at all is a major concern. I hope this ends up being a situation where everyone can joke and mock Ces for having his head in the clouds. Until then, I'm worried.

If he did go to Magic City, wouldn't the Mets be forced to keep him away from the other players until he could get tested?

So is that based on the fact that they've heard something or the fact that they haven't heard anything?
It would look like hell if they said this and he turned up dead in a few days. My guess is that someone who knows him got a text, or some similar indication that he's just AWOL and not in danger.

It's still weird, and leaves room for scenarios that are no laughing matter (e.g., mental-health issues), but I'm less concerned this is going to be a Darryl Kile situation than I was a little while ago.

There's no reason for the Mets to rush to tell the world they don't know where their outfielder is, especially considering the current status of the sport, so it seems safe to assume they didn't release the statement without having first checked all the places Cespedes would logically be. I guess it's possible he isn't safe, but this wasn't going to be a "he was found dead in his hotel room" story.

I'm guessing that they know where he is and is safe but didn't want to release a "he is nursing a hangover and didn't alert us he's too sick to play today" presser.

If they were concerned they'd release something about working closely with authorities, if anyone knows where he is please contact local police etc

Brodie the over his head GM will be addressing the media after the game, Mets currently down 4-0 in the 9th (two runners on, one out).

I changed the title since he is safe and now we know what happened, even if it was a typical Mets mess.

I mean, the Mets are a tire fire and the Wilpons are criminals, so I wish them nothing but the worst. And what Ces did was the worst. So they deserve each other.

‪The greatest trick Yoenis Cespedes ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that – poof – he's gone‬

Yeah, I was going to do it earlier once we learned what actually happened but now works too. Followups can go in the Mets thread.
