A couple more to add from the late 2000s early 2010s: Ellis Burkes (the reprise), Bruce Chen, JT Snow, Brendan Donnelley, Joel Pinero, Scott Posednick and Bill Hall

Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
Yeah, this! But the guy I always remember being surprised to remember was a Red Sock was Mike Cameron.
Only reason I don't forget him was his four HR in a game with the Mariners.

If so, I'll throw out Mark Fidrych.
Saw The Bird when his trucking company was contracted to bring fill/cement/whatever in when they were rebuilding South Station, and he was driving one of the trucks himself.

I recently saw that Willie McGee had a cup of coffee with the Sox and I'd forgotten all about that. Knew at one point they were talking about trading for him and Trader Lou said "Where would we play him?"

Reading through this, the one guy who has slipped my mind was Olerud.

In doing the BRef look, the name that jumped out at me was Herm Winningham

While this thread is full of misfits, John Olerud is the only name so far that I completely forgot about. In fact, the Google images of him in a Sox uniform are blowing my mind right now.
100% agree with this. How did I not know Olerud played for the Sox? Zero memory of that. I was pretty surprised by Mark Lemke too (a lesser known player, but I lived in Atlanta when Lemke was on the Braves and am surprised he was on the Sox).

Fun thread.

Theo seemed to have a soft spot for veteran 1B to platoon/back up Millar and then Youkilis, but all were brought in for just one season or less: Olerud, Snow, Hinske, Casey, LaRoche, Kotchman.
We had JT Snow?

forgot about him too

So far the only ones in this thread I had geniunely forgotten about were Olerud and Sean Casey. Love me some mid 00s bullpen arms though. And never forget Javier Lopez the RP throwing to Javy Lopez the C

Jeff Gray. And OK RP in '90 then one of the top setup men in MLB in '91. Unfortunetly, had a stroke and never got back to MLB. One of those guys who I always wondered what happened to, and if he was at least able to live out an everyday life.

This is weird because every time I am reminded of Colon’s time with the Red Sox, I think “oh, right, and they had Freddy Garcia around then, too.”

Nope. They didn’t. Garcia never played for Boston. He and Colon both played for the Yankees, which I guess is what I’m thinking of.

The Javy Lopez/Javy Lopez battery never happened, unfortunately, IIRC.

Olerud, IIRC, was pretty good for the Sox. He’s been frustratingly good for the Yankees right before his time with us, after sucking his last few years prior, leading to numerous “magic of the pinstripes” comments by the likes of Michael Kay. I was kind of bummed when he hung em up rather than come back to the Sox.

The only aughts name in this thread that I had forgotten about other than the one I mentioned is Jeremy Hermida. One of those classic all-potential guys. Anyway, I scanned the late Theo and early BC era, and here were some names I had totally forgotten:
Conor Jackson
Eric Patterson
Felipe Lopez
Marlon Byrd
Matt Albers
Danny Valencia
Dan Wheeler
Chris Capuano

Also I knew David Ross was on the 2013 team, but I had forgotten he was on the ‘08 team, also.

I could never forget Matt Albers. Literally every time he entered a game, the game thread with explode with "Hey, hey, hey, it's Matt Albers..."

Freddy Garcia reminded me of Joel Piniero and John Halama.

Surprised that you forgot given that he inherited Bob Montgomery's helmet hat (not to be confused with Bob Montgomerys Helmet Hat).

Ryne Sandberg.

Just kidding. Got you for a second, right?

In reading the thread the biggest "oh yeah I can't believe I forgot that" was Grady Sizemore.

He got traded away because of Boggs emergence. I was living in CA from 1983 to 1993 and was inundated with everything A's and Carney featured prominently in the Championship years there.
Lansford was a big reason why Boggs hung around in AAA for so long (2 full seasons). Boggs then played a bunch at 1B (and LF once) in his rookie year just to get in the lineup before they finally moved Lansford.
