All four of those prospects are ranked below the three in the Snell deal, but between those two SD moved 7 of their top 16 prospects. Add in the depth they gave up for Clevinger and Nola last deadline, that is a ton of prospect capital to give up, but they did hold onto Gore and Abrams and Campusano.

Over the last few months they’ve added three aces (each with years of control) in Clevinger, Snell and Darvish.

They still have Mackenzie Gore, CJ Abrams, and Luis Campusano in their farm. Most teams in MLB would still kill to have that farm system.

This trade from Nov 2019 looks even better now that SD spun Davies into Darvish:

“ The Padres acquired outfielder Trent Grisham and right-hander Zach Davies in exchange for second baseman Luis Urías and left-hander Eric Lauer.”

Was expecting a bigger prospect haul for the Cubs. Good for SD.
As I mentioned in the other thread, Darvish is owed nearly $60m over the next three seasons, which are his 34-36 seasons, and he's had injury issues in the past. This seems like a good haul for the Cubs.

Wow.
And Clevinger gets added next year.

Edited to add: should be a fun season for Don Orsillo to call.

Despite the really good shortened season, it's doubtful Darvish had a ton of excess value on his contract in his year 34-36 seasons.

Seems like the Cubs went for quantity of over quality, but overall I think probably a good trade for both teams.

Good upside for San Diego in the short term, and they will need it to compete with LA.

The Cubs parlay Darvish's 12 good starts in 2020 into some actual value and don't have to deal with any injury risk going forward.

I'm curious what the Padres' plan for Jorge Ona is, as I thought he might be part of this deal. I guess if the NH adopts the DH, he could end up there.

It will be interesting to see how the imminent Musgrove return compares to this, younger and cheaper but with one less year of control and less ace upside. I initially thought Davies was a good get but now I see he is a FA after 2021, I’d be very excited about this as a Padres fan.

This is great for SD. Seems like they've gotten great without giving up their big guys- love this team if the Sox don't win.

I like this deal for SD better than the Snell deal, and I liked the Snell deal for them. The prospect cost was not as high as I expected it would be, given that Darvish’s deal really isn’t that costly. It’s not in the top 10. It’s less than Tanaka made last year. Less than Corbin and Wheeler are making (or Sale for that matter). Reasonable.

That Padre rotation looks fantastic.

It's amazing, Preller was as bad as any GM could be for maybe a year, Brodie-level bad, but wow did he turn it around to assemble what looks like a powerhouse to go after the big bad Dodgers.

San Diego getting serious, my wife is from there and we lived there from 05-17, they have an awesome park downtown, and they have always been my N.L. team to follow, but not many good teams to pull for. They will need one to stay close with the Dodgers, who basically have become old man Steinbrenner's Yankees, where $$$ was never an issue. I expect we will hear in the coming days that they have signed Bauer.Hopefully spring training starts on time and the season starts on time.

on top of the trades, they signed their 2B...The Padres have agreed to a contract with Korean infielder Ha-seong Kim, according to ESPN and multiple reports.
not sure how he translates to the majors ,but he's 25 and his line from last year....The right-handed hitting Kim batted .306 with 30 home runs, 109 RBIs, 111 runs scored and 23 stolen bases this past season with Kiwoom.

Padres are making moves. Fun to see. I like them. Now we need the Brewers to make some big moves. They're a fun team, too.
