To the bolded - as one of the handful of Yankee fans I don't find complete idiots, surprisingly all of them exist here - when do you guys think that day will ever come? Also, obviously depending on the pitching staff and dropping off Donaldson, that probably wouldn't be such a high payroll team, at least by NY standards. Gregorius would be in his last arb year, Judge/Bird/Sanchez/Mateo all very cost-controlled. Obviously what Cashman is trying to do if doofi Levine and Hal let him sell is to add another core cost-controlled guy or two to this potential group, Joey Gallo or whoever.
Also 21 year old 3B Miguel Andujar is maybe part of a 2019 hopeful plan like this also, on the 2015 and 2016 All-Star teams in high A and holding his own in AA for the last month.

Yeah, not thrilled about Castro still being in there either, but both are under contract that long, unfortunately.Ellsbury will need a Segway by that point
Well, I don't think any GMs really have complete control, they all have general or specific overall budgetary constraints for starters. To the bolded - as one of the handful of Yankee fans I don't find complete idiots, surprisingly all of them exist here - when do you guys think that day will ever come?
How many years have we heard that Cashman has complete control, the Steinbrenners (dad or kids) or Levine are stepping back and he will be able to run the team as he sees fit? And then it plays out like that?
It's gotta be frustrating for you guys.
Jesus Christ I just felt bad for a Yankees fan. [emoji55][emoji379]
Yeah, and if it's someone like John Henry or Ted Lerner who only have a chunk of their wealth tied up in the team, it's probably easier to give the baseball people at least a bit more control. The Steinbrenners have nothing besides the Yankees basically, it's their entire fortune. If George hadn't died in 2010, the one year with an estate tax exemption, they would have had to sell the team to pay the estimated $500M-$600M estate tax.In defense of what you say, JA, I was watching the MLB Network the other day and Dan O'Dowd was on and was asked about Owner-GM interaction as to whether to buy or sell. He said that pretty much every GM has to make his case to his team's owners and try to justify why he wants to be either a buyer or seller at the deadline. And because the GM is an employee of the owner, if the GM wants to sell but the owner wants to buy he's going to have to buy and he's going to have to defend buying in the press. It's not just Cashman.
Probably you're right, I think there are a few factors there: their MLB-leading payrolls, the new Stadium in 2009 that they couldn't really pay for, and the Steinbrenners having pretty much all of their assets tied up in the team, as I said. It wouldn't be a problem if Hal was just like 10 percent smarter, or if Randy Levine got hit by a bus.Oh, I'm aware that most owners are going to play a part. It just seems like Cashman has to deal with it on a whole other level. Maybe it's just the extended media coverage that shines a light on it more or maybe he's just more vocal about it. But it certainly seems he's at the forefront of it and it's cited every time his contract is up as a reason he might finally go elsewhere. I don't think it's crazy to suggest the Yankee owners are more hands on than most.
If Hal and Randy say soYeah, things seem to be heating up, I'm guessing Chapman goes tonight. The above is one thing I came here to post, the other is from CLE:
Mike Ortiz Jr. @xOrtiz4x 2h2 hours ago
Sources: Yankees are asking Indians for a deal around Bradley Zimmer/Clint Frazier plus Justus Sheffield/Triston McKenzie.

Cont. Deal will involve Aroldis Chapman on the Yankees side. I'm told deal could be done tonight.
Your knees are grinding holes in the ground praying that McCann is dealtNY could bundle McCann in that CLE deal also (he has a no-trade), but CLE desperately needs a catcher and NY needs to give Sanchez a chance (and Higashioka/Torrens behind him).
Yeah, obviously. If Hal and Randy say so
Heh, if it was up to me, I would really clean house. Tex onto the DL for season-ending surgery, A-Rod DFAd, Chapman/Gardner/McCann/Nova all dealt, and Miller too if they can get a package they are really happy with for him (if not, there's always the offseason and next year).Your knees are grinding holes in the ground praying that McCann is dealt
He is an incredible athlete, he supposedly could beat Billy Hamilton in a 100 yard dash when they were Reds teammates and he is a weightlifting monster.I'm guessing Theo expects Chapman's agent to come back with 5/75. Chapman seems healthy and I could see him getting 6/95+ on the open market, the guy is so dominant.
Word is they want him, but they may have been outbid by the Cubs.I'm surprised Washington isn't after Chapman big time. Maybe they don't like domestic violence in DC.
He's pretty far away from the bigs still (Torres), and he's not exactly destroying high A this year (although he is only 19). Also he is bulking up and is looking more like a 3B than a SS...I'm going to be pissed if the Yankees turn 4 shitty prospects into one uber-prospect!
I think if I'm Chapman, I am going to free agency at this point almost no matter what I'm offered. On the other hand, Chicago does have an incredible young core and it does seem like a nice place to be, and it removes any risk for Chapman if he gets hurt in the next two months.I think the chance of Chapman taking a 4/60 deal is pretty slim, but that's probably Theo opening things up with his low offer and they'll work on an extension over the next 24 hours. What do you think, Jon Abbey?

Hearing but cannot confirm that deal is done, Chapman for Torres +. Holdup is Chapman extension talks. 4/$60 on table.
Jon Heyman @JonHeyman 15m15 minutes ago
Gleyber Torres, who's been scratched, was in offer to Yankees. Torres plus for chapman is on table. #cubs #yanks
Joel Sherman (on vacation this week, back tomorrow, tweeting from a plane) suggested this, and it would make a lot of sense as he has been a bust for CHC.Any chance they ask for Adam Warren to be included?
If they're giving up Torres+, I'd expect them to want an extension. Also, FWIW, none of the main beat writers are talking about an extension for Chapman being a crucial condition for the deal, only the one BP writer linked above.
It seems like there may be more players involved from NY's side also, Eovaldi or Beltran or Pineda. If they're giving up Torres+, I'd expect them to want an extension.
