I'll be very surprised if they trade Quintana. It's more than conceivable that Moncada will be in the majors and hitting his stride while they still have Quintana under contract. So who gets Quintana?
No need to rush. If they don't like the offers now they can wait until the deadline. Hahn talked about doing this rebuild the right way.Or Frazier
He's certainly not going to TexasThat's bad news for JB. Does any fanbase like him?
Cleveland is going to win 110 games. So the whole AL Central, other than Cleveland, appears to be selling.
I know. And Davis has forearm issues. But Soler isn't very good. And if he does turn it around, he will be a FA by the time the Royals become good again. This seems very light compared to what the Yanks got for a couple of months of Aroldis Chapman (or Beltran even). And the Cubs did't have the QO option with Champan that they will with Davis. It's for one year of Davis
That's the difference between a team desperately trying to win their first world series in a million years, and one who just won it...I know. And Davis has forearm issues. But Soler isn't very good. Speculation is that they will move an OF.What in the hell is Colorado doing? Surrendering the 11th pick to fill sing an OF when they have no hole in the OF?
Speculation is that Desmond will be their primary 1B and perhaps play a bit of a Zobrist role and move around as needed. What in the hell is Colorado doing? Surrendering the 11th pick to fill sing an OF when they have no hole in the OF?
I think this is a good lesson on trying to identify and capitalize on peak value. Not very long ago, Soler was basically a can't miss top-15 prospect like Moncada. Cuban, high-profile signing, puts up strong numbers in the minor leagues. Albeit slightly older and bit by injury, he puts up really good performances in the minors and rises fast. Plus physical tools, athleticism, built like a linebacker (6ft 4, 215lb). He put up insane ISO's the upper minors in limited samples during 2014. (.446 over 79 PA in AA, .336 over 127 PA in AAA) He didn't have the strikeout flags associated with Moncada, only K'ing around 20% at both levels while walking around 14-15% of the time. He gets promoted to the majors late August and exceeds expectations, slashing .292/.330/.573 with 5HR over 24 games, 97 PA. I mean, he didn't walk much (6.2%) and struck out more (24.7%)...but not so bad for a cup of coffee from a 22 year old with limited minor league action.Wade Davis to Cubs for Jorge Soler. In a crazy market for closers, Theo gets Davis for a guy who got 13 AB the entire postseason and a WAR of 0.1 over the past 2 seasons (187 games).
Are they hanging on to Ichiro too?Jayson Stark @jaysonst 2h2 hours ago

Source: White Sox working on a deal to send Adam Eaton to the Nationals.
As the resident Rox fan here, this is a good question. Hopefully, this is the first move in a series that will involve moving one of their surplus outfielders (likely Cargo or Blackmon) for relief pitching plus whatever else; the former is their biggest need. Then, if they are able to free up some payroll by perhaps moving Cargo, they can possibly jump in on EE or maybe Trumbo for first base since they've already surrendered their first pick. Under this scenario, the Desmond signing makes sense. The price is certainly right, but for now you're right that giving up the 11th overall pick for Desmond when they already have Story and a surplus outfield makes little sense. What in the hell is Colorado doing? Surrendering the 11th pick to fill sing an OF when they have no hole in the OF?
Wasn't this the rumored return for Sale? If so, holy crap is right.Holy crap
“@CSNHayes: #WhiteSox return includes Lucas Giolito, Dane Dunning and Reynaldo Lopez for Adam Eaton.”
Wow, that seems like an insane price for Adam Eaton.
Saw somewhere on Twitter today that the Nats were talking to the Rays about Colome.Eaton is really cheap, controlled for 5 years, and still only 27 years old, so maybe he gets even better. But, that seems like a hell of a lot to give up, especially with Strasburg a huge question mark. Plus, The Nats still don't have a closer or a set up man. Maybe getting Eaton so cheap in dollars frees payroll to sign Jansen. Wow. Rick Hahn making early case for executive of the year.
Eaton
Turner
Harper
Rendon
Murphy
Worth
Zimmerman
Norris
Is a pretty sick lineup though if they can keep people healthy this year.
Rizzo generally makes pretty shrewd deals and I'm not sure there's anything on his record you could call a 'loss'. This one seems crazy, though.
Call up Rizzo and offer up Buchholz for Rendon. After seeing the Eaton deal, he just might do it.
Kidding(well, sort of).
Not reasonably. Though the argument would be a fine example of not understanding the fickle nature of defensive value incorporated in WAR.Eaton is signed for 32 mil over the next 5 years. You could argue he's a more valuable chip than Sale. Over the past 3 years, Eaton has a WAR of 15.4, Sale 14.8.
The package for Sale was Giolito + Robles or Giolito + Robles + Lopez depending on who you ask.Wasn't this the rumored return for Sale? If so, holy crap is right.
I think it is completely reasonable for a team to want Eaton more than McCutchen.Really makes me wonder what WAS offered PIT for McCutchen...
A lot of that is based on defensive metrics rating him exceptional in RF, similar to Jason Heyward. I didn't think Heyward was worth anywhere near $180M and I don't think 5 years of Eaton are worth anywhere near 3 years of Sale.Eaton is signed for 32 mil over the next 5 years.
