Tyrod stiff arming on the option and allowing himself to get dragged out of bounds was idiotic. Slide down. Take a knee. Under no circumstances do you go out of bounds. Although Miami nearly out boneheaded them when Damian Williams refused to be tackled out of bounds with no timeouts causing the Franks running kick at the end of regulation.Allowing 34 points to Miami and their backup QB because your defense sucks and your QB isn't sensible enough to stay in bounds at the end of regulation, allowing Miami enough time to kick the tying FG? That's REXTOWN, baby!
He's gone.
The Bills are under a microscope in that town. The fans are intense and they are (almost) the only game in town. Rex was only one of many clowns in the Big Apple, where the Jets are IMO no better than #6 in terms of fan support/interest. He's got nowhere to hide and they're not letting him off the hook. That is some rough sledding there at Prime Minister's Questions. Especially the one that ends "you're supposed to be a defensive coach" rather than, you know, something with a question mark.
And just look at that mealy-mouthed answer he gave to that: "I know you can question it all you want. I've been pretty decent throughout my career. Obviously this was a rough night, there's no question. We've had some tough ones but I think the league is -- I think offenses are pretty decent these days. They're able to move the football but again, I'll let my reputation stand for what it is and you can challenge it all you want."That is some rough sledding there at Prime Minister's Questions. Especially the one that ends "you're supposed to be a defensive coach" rather than, you know, something with a question mark.
Yup. He will be fantastic in the media. His days as a head coach are over.He has to end up with a media job at this point, right?
Maybe Joe Gibbs in 2004.Do head coaches ever return after hitting the networks? Parcells, Johnson, Ditka, Cowher, Gruden, Dungy, etc. That's a lot of excellent head coaching experience in the media, probably more cumulatively than is on the sidelines. Who was the last one to return to the sidelines?
And didn't Parcells and J Johnson do media between their coaching stints.Maybe Joe Gibbs in 2004.
Parcells is the first one that comes to mind for me.Do head coaches ever return after hitting the networks? Parcells, Johnson, Ditka, Cowher, Gruden, Dungy, etc. That's a lot of excellent head coaching experience in the media, probably more cumulatively than is on the sidelines. Who was the last one to return to the sidelines?
Can't see that happening. I think that Brian Flores is the successor to Patricia. BB never brings in someone from the outside to be a coordinator. They had to already be in the program and get promoted.Honestly if Patricia moves on Rex would be great as BB's DC.
Yup. He will be fantastic in the media. His days as a head coach are over.
The ponzi scheme analogy is hilarious; largely because it's accurate. In watching all of Rex's press conferences/interviews leading up to the MIA rematch, any casual fan would have thought that he had the right recipe all cooked up for Sunday. He was all things Rex -- arrogant, full of promises. In any ponzi scheme, eventually the bill becomes due. Today apparently is that day for the Ryans.
I think Jimmy Johnson was the last major-network talking head to return to coaching. (ESPN and Fox Sports employ so many ex-coaches that I have to believe they've had one or two cycle back into coaching.)Do head coaches ever return after hitting the networks? Parcells, Johnson, Ditka, Cowher, Gruden, Dungy, etc. That's a lot of excellent head coaching experience in the media, probably more cumulatively than is on the sidelines. Rex Ryan hasn't overseen a good defense since 2012 and turned an excellent unit when he arrived in Buffalo into a bad one. What the hell makes you think he's still a good defensive coordinator and would work well with a coach who won't just let him do his own thing?Honestly if Patricia moves on Rex would be great as BB's DC.
And who in their right mind would think Rex could control himself enough to work under BB's organizational scheme?Rex Ryan hasn't overseen a good defense since 2012 and turned an excellent unit when he arrived in Buffalo into a bad one. What the hell makes you think he's still a good defensive coordinator and would work well with a coach who won't just let him do his own thing?
As others have noted the answer is yes. But in all of the cases cited here, the coach was spectacularly unsuccessful (at least relative to their previous success) after taking more that a year or two off.Do head coaches ever return after hitting the networks? Parcells was "spectacularly unsuccessful" in his return to coach the Pats?As others have noted the answer is yes. But in all of the cases cited here, the coach was spectacularly unsuccessful (at least relative to their previous success) after taking more that a year or two off.
The only example I can think of that defies this would be Dick Vermeil, who took 14 years off before coming back to the Rams and eventually winning a Super Bowl. Then he "retired" again before coming back 2 years later to join the Chiefs and leading them fairly successfully.
Hmmm ... didn't realize he took three years off in between the Giants and Pats. So he's another example.Parcells was "spectacularly unsuccessful" in his return to coach the Pats?
I agree--I think there will be some great nuggets from him, but they'll be sandwiched by fact-stretching narratives and ax-grinding baloney. The only coach in Rex's tier on tv is Herm Edwards, right? All the other guys actually won something at some point.I know I'm in the minority, but Ryan is going to be an unbearable blowhard in the media. Just wait until he talks about how great he is and you have to listen to it every fucking day.
I can't understand this comment at all. Rex is like the polar opposite of BB in all respects. He has an insatiable need to put himself in the spotlight, he's full of bluster and refuses to take accountability when things are going poorly, and takes all of the credit when they go well. On top of this there really isn't any recent evidence that he's good at coaching defense at this point.Honestly if Patricia moves on Rex would be great as BB's DC.
Mariucci is on NFL network. And annoying as hell.I agree--I think there will be some great nuggets from him, but they'll be sandwiched by fact-stretching narratives and ax-grinding baloney.
