Speaking of Troy Brown similarities (or maybe this is what you were referring to), Hawkins played both WR and CB in college.Love it. He's a poor man's Troy Brown. Hope Amedola isn't too attached to the Boston area.
As it stands now, Brandin Cooks, Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan and Malcolm Mitchell are viewed as "locks" to make the club. Special-teams captain Matthew Slater, while technically listed as a receiver despite playing only 53 snaps at the position in 2016, also falls into that category.Kind of an odd signing. Is this just a warm body that ends up as a training camp casualty? I have a hard time seeing him breaking into the core group of Edelman, Cooks, Hogan, Amendola, and Mitchell.

That leaves what would likely be just one spot on the initial 53-man roster for the remaining group of Danny Amendola, Hawkins, Devin Lucien, Devin Street, DeAndrew White, Austin Carr and Cody Hollister.
Many things can happen between now and that point, but if everyone is healthy, it could come down to Amendola versus Hawkins as the most likely options for that one spot.

He lost his broadcasting jobs after kicking down his wife's door while holding a knife.I am somewhat disappointed to find that Artrell is not hosting a radio show somewhere. His interviews with D&H when he played for the Patriots were filled with candid, thoughtful answers and a rich, deep basso profoundo that would make Barry White jealous.
Maybe BB talked him into just coming in and learning the plays so he could be emergency deep depth a la Colvin and Seau.Handwriting on the wall concerning making the team perhaps? Kind of odd...
maybe a lot of players want to retire as PatriotsMaybe BB talked him into just coming in and learning the plays so he could be emergency deep depth a la Colvin and Seau.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here, but this means that if he did play, it can only be for NE, right?Maybe BB talked him into just coming in and learning the plays so he could be emergency deep depth a la Colvin and Seau.
Depends if they cut him (in which case he can play elsewhere) or add him to the reserve / retired list (in which case the Patriots control his rights).Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here, but this means that if he did play, it can only be for NE, right?
Seems more like Hawkins figuring out the path he wanted his life to take was going to be something other than playing in the NFL. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/07/25/andrew-hawkins-announces-his-retirement/Hawkins said he wanted to play for the Patriots and they wanted him, but it just wasn’t going to work out.
“They were disappointed,” he said. “I told them I was appreciative of the opportunity to work with an organization as storied as they are.”
Hawkins played three seasons with the Browns and three with the Bengals. He recently got a master’s degree from Columbia and said the next step in his life will be working on a Ph.D. in business and economics.
