So why the group boycott — or, more charitably, 32 unilateral and uncoordinated decisions not to give Kap a chance?
Does anyone really think the 32 owners are mortified personally by the kneeling? If so, why did they abide the kneeling so long? Why did they initially stand with the players against Trump —But then back off?
There won’t be much kneeling next year. That you can pretty much take to the bank. And it’s not because the point has been made — the point was made in 2016 too. It’s because a very significant portion of the NFL’s fan base is livid, and they have taken it out on the owners, who will not tolerate the protests any longer.
The $90 payment was a fig leaf so the players would stand down. Everyone saves a little face and the issue goes away.
