It won't shock me if Chet/Wemby ends up being like Melo/Lebron. An all-time great in his own right, but 10 years from now people will be wondering why we ever compared them (and 20 years from now, no one will even remember).

So who is the Melo in this comparison???

"He was on the line..." says it all about an announcer watching with a fan's heart instead of an analyst's eyes.

"Oh...not even close..." -- sheesh.
The back of your monstrous foot hovering over the line is not the same as it being on the line.

I’ve really started to love the thunder. SGA is the best dressed man in the league and drops 30 a night without shooting any 3s, Chet is so fun to watch, and other guys like Lu Dort, Jalen Williams, and even Giddey are fun to root for.

Chet, if he stays healthy (handful of salt there). He's a 50/40/90 guy with plus defense, averaging 17/8/3 and 3.2 stocks. His efficiency at that volume is basically unheard of for a rookie, and combine that with his defense? Unreal. Maybe it's just a hot streak, but he's outplaying Wemby while playing a huge role for a really solid team.

The Thunder aren't just fun. They are scary.

Chet is really, really good. Wemby is going to have his work cut out to be as good as Chet on offense over the course of their careers.

I've liked them even more since they put that beatdown on the Cs last year with Shai out. Cs came to their house sleepwalking like it was going to be a walkover and the Thunder just absolutely worked them. No fear.

Player A: 19.3 pts on .517 ts, 9.5 reb, 2.4 ast, 1.1 stl, 2.6 blk, 3.8 tov, -11.1 pts per 100 on court (in 30.2 mpg)

Player B: 17.1 pts on .677 ts (!!!), 7.9 reb, 2.8 ast, 1.2 stl, 2.2 blk, 2.3 tov, +7.8 pts per 100 on court (in 30.3 mpg)

A is Wemby, B is Chet. Way too early to say anything definitive, but right now it’s Chet by a country mile.

I don't think this was unexpected. we knew chet was very skilled. and that wemby is more of a project.

the West is confusing, there's like 6 or 7 teams I could see getting the top seed but only Denver feels like a legitimate title contender.

Chet is almost 2 years older than Wemby too

Good point. I think there was a moment of irrational Wemby hyperbole following the 38 point game v Phoenix, but generally, yeah, no one should have expected a 19 year-old to be a monster of efficiency and consistent, winning basketball right out of the gate. As Moops notes, there’s a big difference between age 19-20 and age 21-22.

There were plenty of Chet haters here, let's not say we ALL knew he would be this good.

Chet has the massive benefit of being on a much better team with multiple playmakers that have allowed him to get in a position to shine on both ends of the floor, while Wemby has Jeremy Sochan experimenting at point guard.

Yeah Chet might be a "rookie" because he sat out all last year with a foot injury, but he's had 12 months that Wemby hasn't had of being coached by NBA coaches, watching NBA players work every day, and training with them as he could.

I imagine OKC would likely trade Holmgren for Wembanyama right now if they could.

Of course they'd make that trade...in a heartbeat. I don't get the stats comparison given context (age; experience; teammates). Regarding the latter -- teammates -- I also don't get the Sochan experiment. What do I know compared to Pops et al., but to me he looks stiff and just an okay handle and passer. Not someone I watch at PG and think, sure he's inexperienced, but give him a year or two. To the contrary, he just looks out of position. Could be wrong and time will tell, but I do think you put the development of your future great into 1st gear but not matching him with teammates who can help him grow. The difference in Houston this year with just a couple of vets added (and a different coach) is telling in the impact on young talented guys.

Not so much making a comparison as just posting their career stats to date. Since they’re often mentioned in the same breath, I figured I’d put them in the same post (with the disclaimer that it’s way too early to say anything definitive about either of them).

They lost to LAL, but the Rockets announcers seem like they're having so much fun just having a competitive team. Everything is great vibes, just loving the ride.

That's odd, I watched a good chunk of Dallas - Milwaukee on Saturday and Grant looked awesome, hit a bunch of 3s, defended Giannis like the absolute professional we know he is, really affected him. The announcers were gushing about his effort and his focus so far this year, they think they got a steal at $13M / year for him. I wonder if...

...yup, the Sacramento game was the second half of a back-to-back. I really wouldn't read too much into that, unless you have an axe to grind with the Mavericks. And around here, I feel like we gotta save all our axes for the home team, there aren't many to spare :)

Random: in the most recent episode of the DubsTalk podcast, Steph is asked to name his **non-basketball** sports Mount Rushmore.

First answer is Tiger Woods. Second answer is … Manny and Big Papi (though he wants them to share one spot so he can give spots 3 and 4a/4b to Muhammad Ali and two Carolina Panthers).

I always forget what a serious Sox fan Steph is. Can we get him a SoSH membership when he hangs ‘em up? Or would he first have to renounce Draymond and all his works?

We were happy to be joined by Curt Schilling as a member, back when it was believed he was a garden-variety egotistical asshole, rather than an out-and-out Nazi and hate-filled racist who wishes journalists dead. I think Steph is comfortably under that bar. Hell I think Draymond himself would be.

OT, but was G38 ever officially banned? Or did he just quietly make himself scarce when he realized most of SoSH were not fellow hate-filled white nationalists?

Teague is great. And he's not wrong about never winning a playoff game against Lebron, 0-12 for his career. And just 5-21 in regular season games against Lebron, that's rough. No player has played more playoff games against Lebron without winning at least one, and only a handful of guys (led by Kemba Walker at 1-26) played more regular season games against James with a worse winning %.

Gregg Popovich just grabbed a mic during the middle of Kawhi Leonard shooting FTs and asked the crowd to stop booing. "That's not who we are." The booing intensified for the second shot. Crowd here in SA boos Kawhi every time he touches and have done it since left the Spurs.

He's Pop and I guess he meant well, but kind of crazy a coach can just get on the house mic in between free throws for the opposing team and start saying stuff.

It's been six seasons since he left SAS. Are we sure Pop is ok?
Why aren't you asking if the fans who are booing are ok? Pop isn't the one living in (and for some reason bitter about) the past. They have the most exciting young prospect in 20 years and they gotta boo? Boo a guy who won a title for them? Who didn't ask out or leave in free agency, but rather was traded by their manager? Pop shoulda told them to get their heads examined.

C’mon man, he asked out. His team said it was that they didn’t trust the medical staff or something but don’t rewrite history
