Come on, dude. This team is just ineptNot if he was instructed to do the right thing for the franchise.
Which he did.
That's what I'm believing. The fact that the Pats didn't even try to score a touchdown on the last drive was almost too obvious.
50/50 just like this week.So gang; who is the quarterback next week?
I do. I'm OK with it.I don't know why everybody says you're dumb
They are also so freaking boring. The passing game is so conservative.I know this is better for the team in the long run but it’s awfully depressing having the worst team in the NFL.
Think about is as rooting for the Pats to win more in 2024.I know at this point it is better that they lost, but I find it hard to get too excited about them losing. First, I can’t root for my teams to lose, I just can’t do it. Second, this roster is so fucking bad that even if they nail the pick it isn’t going to help all that much. The entire operation needs to be blown up, they are so fucking bad.
I mean I hope that is true. Even if they nail the draft and free agency they are so far from having a competitive roster I fear that we are looking at multiple years of this level of boring and suck.Think about is as rooting for the Pats to win more in 2024.
Agreed. I don’t like the QB’s enough to draft that early.Which might not be a bad play given the multiple needs of this team
I am right here with you. Easier said than done but it has to happen.I hope the Pats blow it up now and truly start the rebuild. I wanted them to try to thread the needle and rebuild on the fly while remaining competitive and they tried but now it’s clear they need a total overhaul.
Good enough for a decent QB?This is awesome.
Well on our way to a top 3 pick.
Yeah, that is just this year too. He also got "benched" in that Chicago game last year, but I think they said it was health related. But another 3 or 4 times this year for sure. How many times can a QB be benched before it's permanent? Hasn't he been benched like 3 or 4 times this year in the middle of a game?
Do you trust BB to make good picks in next year's draft? If not, do you think BB is prepared to give up shopping for the groceries and just coaching ?Just sad. One thing I think that may be worth keeping in mind - BB has always said that players win games and coaches only put them in positions where they can do that. This team (indeed - all the teams since a certain No. 12 left) have consistently been in one score/one play games - they just lose them. Players don’t execute. Cam Newton fumbles on a potential game winning drive. We give Josh McDaniels his signature coaching moment by lateraling for a defensive touchdown. Mac throws the single worst interception in franchise history. A missed chip shot. This is simply another example of inability of players to execute. Yes - I know who chooses the players - but is there really anyone who you would rather have scheming for this defense once they’re healthy? Someone else who would have the institutional knowledge that could help develop a new quarterback next year? (Surprise! - there will be a new quarterback next year). There is not a huge pool of competent coaches out there - we have one that is going to the hall of fame - given the need to develop an entirely new offense next year why be in such a hurry to develop a new head coach as well?
Great question. I'll try to ask him that and see what he says. I'm confident in two things: (1) That he will say this has been the hardest year of his career, and (2) he will have a phenomenal perspective. He's a believer that playing football professionally is a privilege, not a right or entitlement, and he recognizes that he's been blessed to have an incredible career filled with absolutely tons of winning. He won't like this year but he will have a grateful perspective nonetheless. It would be really cool if @BaseballJones, in a follow-up to his awesome book "53rd Man: Fighting to Make it in the NFL," could have another word with Matt Slater. I would really love to know what's running thru his mind right now. How does he lead/handle his business thru this debacle of a season? Is he thinking of his own football mortality? It's gotta be tough.
This is hot stuff.
I understand what you’re saying but the honest reply on my end is that I trust him as much as I trust any of the alternatives. I thought Gonzalez was an excellent choice this year - and he gets injured. Get him an assistant GM with a personnel background or some equivalent help but I value stability over a roll of the dice. I’d rather be the Steelers than the Jets when it comes to hiring coaches.Do you trust BB to make good picks in next year's draft? I think there are multiple threads where there is general agreement that the best outcome is a new GM and BB coaching, but I don't think it's possible.
BB is brilliant on defense. It’s very strange that this can be true but it seems like it is. To run a good defense that can stop the different type of schemes thrown at it and the players in those schemes you have to be able to scout the opposition so if he can scout the opposition offenses so well how does it make sense that he can’t identify talented offensive players? I don’t get it.BB is brilliant on defense. One of the best defensive minds in the history of the NFL.
He has no idea how to evaluate talent on offense. Especially now.
It's a mystery, surrounded by fail, wrapped in WTF.It’s very strange that this can be true but it seems like it is. Setting WR Harry aside, is it mainly a matter of (mis)evaluation on offense, or more he just can't swallow paying the going rates for impact offensive talent in the NFL these days? This leads him to strain to make some odd moves that usually don't work out. It’s very strange that this can be true but it seems like it is.
