Makes sense. Figure now that Arizona paid Kyler that they aren't taking a QB. But they may take MHJ. If you want him, you have to trade up.First time the chargers ever moved up when doing this.
I got a Wiggins @ #34, as well, but with Maye as QB at pick #3. Overall, I like your draft better.JJ is popping into the top 2 more and more frequently leaving both Maye and Daniel’s, silly season is here for sure.
I liked this haul, went CB earlier as he fell and many OT and WRs were gone but still pulled solid offensive talent including a RB that reminds me of Burkhead in Carson Steele. I really like Legette which means he’s going to bust, but him and Rice to improve the return game along with Wiley seemed solid.
Not sure I love the pick at 193, but hoped he could play bigger and rely on the quick twitch.

Could also be something very simple.... their doctors did not like his file.SMOKESCREEN!!!
I'm sure they'll have some people there, because even if Penix isn't on their board, those WRs are.
That's a fine draft.Who knows how these players will turn out in reality, but I would be irrationally excited about this outcome.

Pretty sweet steals grabbing Hall Jr. at 103 and Laube at 137.View attachment 79749
Pretty straight up draft. Moved back up to 181 to get a corner.
THis might be a case of doing too many mocks off one board. Laube is the consensus 15th RB, 182 overall prospect, PFN is way higher on him than consensus.Pretty sweet steals grabbing Hall Jr. at 103 and Laube at 137.
Folks are talking about Laube rising, but I'm a much bigger fan of Lloyd if we're going to burn a pick on RB.THis might be a case of doing too many mocks off one board. Laube is the consensus 15th RB, 182 overall prospect, PFN is way higher on him than consensus.
Probably - I only ever use PFN because I like the UI best. That is about where PFN had Laube until after the combine, when he immediately shot up to around 115 but frequently gets drafted between 80-100 when running the model.THis might be a case of doing too many mocks off one board. Nothing wrong with this draft at all. You just added playmakers and OL security for the offense, not to mention the next QB.Haven't done one in a bit. Got a trade offer from LAC that moved me back to #5, but swapped my #68 for their #37, so that was worth moving down two spots, especially since, with Williams and Maye off the board, and me betting that neither LAC or Ari would want a QB, I could still land Daniels at #5. Let's see how that works out....
Yep, it worked. WRs were taken at #3 and #4, allowing me to draft Daniels with the #5. Sweet.
Got OT Justin Morgan with #34, which is very nice, and fills a huge need. Now at #37, I double up on tackles and take OT Suamaitaia from BYU. Now I don't get to pick for a while.
Get to my pick at #103, not loving the WR group that's left. In doubling up on the OL, I'm leaving myself bare at WR, which bums me out. So at #103, I snag TE Cade Stover of Ohio State, who is a terrific receiving option at TE.
At #137, I want a WR or CB, but I decide to do neither and grab RB Lloyd out of USC, a very explosive guy who I hope will be my next stud RB. Don't love drafting a RB until later in the draft, but I felt a little stuck at this spot.
At #180 I take CB Brownlee, as it's always good to take a corner.
Get a WR at #193 - Cornelius Johnson from Michigan. Worth a flier.
Finally, at #221, I take LB Speights from LSU, an underrated guy who may be a real sleeper.

Overall, I am not sure I love this draft. Obviously if Daniels is a hit, then it's a great draft. I do like improving the OL a lot, and I think Stover is a real player. Lloyd has promise, and the rest...who knows. If the Pats hit on the QB and drafted two future starting OT in this draft, that's pretty darned good.
I could live with this. If Daniels works out, it's a winner (I'm much more comfortable with him than Maye). Suamataia and Morgan should be at least serviceable starters, though the latter and his sub 33" arms might need to move inside. Farm Gronk is an A+ character guy, but I'm not sure he moves well enough to be a difference maker at TE. The only drag is not ending up with a developmental X with decent upside.Haven't done one in a bit. I had a similar draft--Daniels @ #5 and 2 OTs @ #34 & #37--on March 20. Somehow, I ended up with a pick @ #90 and a TB 2025 2nd. I don't recall how. Also, the Cade Stover and Dylan Laube combo @ 103 & 136/137 seems pretty popular. Like you, though, I think I prefer Lloyd as an RB flyer.Haven't done one in a bit. A couple of summers as a youth I hayed. It was the absolute worst job ever.I could live with this. If Daniels works out, it's a winner (I'm much more comfortable with him than Maye). Edit: I do like Stover. Combine quote: "I like making hay, I like bailing hay. Everyone likes bailing hay."
Back in the day my wife threw bails in W. Virginia. Not a euphemism. She agrees with you.A couple of summers as a youth I hayed. It was the absolute worst job ever.
Especially since I discovered that I am allergic to hay.
But the thing is if none of the good tackles are left there almost has to be some pretty good receivers left, and they need receivers. If they were set at WR I would agree.I think the second round pick is the one you are more likely to be able to drop down from, especially if they don't like any of the OTs left.
That's true and I went the WR route in my last mock so I tried a different strategy. The argument is whether the best WR left at the top of the 2nd is better than whatever value you get later. Do a highly regarded C prospect and a wider variance WR like Polk have more potential to make an influence in the NFL than Coleman, for example? But the thing is if none of the good tackles are left there almost has to be some pretty good receivers left, and they need receivers. I decided to give trading back from 34 a shot and got a 2025 2nd, dropped back to 49, and a pick swap to move up slightly from 103. But then Seattle made a ridiculous offer for 49 and I had to take it. And then the board ran out about as good as it could have. I would take this result with the 2025 picks in a heartbeat, but seems very unlikely IRL.That's true and I went the WR route in my last mock so I tried a different strategy. Oh god no. Don’t get cute. If they believe in a guy, draft them. It’s not worth the risk and there’s an outside chance picks 1-4 are all QBs. Sean Peyton years later is still suffering from getting jumped to get Mahomes.Doesn't Arizona have to worry about the Chargers jumping them from 5? I think they do, and it makes it at least plausible that they could trade up to 3 if the cost isn't crazy. The question I've been wondering about is how risky is it for the Pats to go back to 5 and risk the Cards trading out to maybe the Giants at 6. I think the Pats can only go back to 5 if they are indifferent between whichever 2 QBs remain on the board at 3.
Harbaugh teams are built in the trenches. I have to think Alt is their guy or they’re content with Nabers if they’re really looking to get a WR. The difference between Harrison and Nabers isn’t nearly enough, especially with Harbaugh’s scheme/philosophy to warrant giving up picks they desperately need to move up 2 spots.Doesn't Arizona have to worry about the Chargers jumping them from 5? Doubt Tennessee would trade up, and I doubt McCarthy is around at 7.Doing the "trade back" scenario...
Two offers on the table right out of the gate:
(1) Tennessee offers #7, #38, and a 2025 fourth rounder for #3. This gives me a chance to get McCarthy and add other draft capital.
(2) Denver offers #12, #147, a 2025 first, and a 2025 second. Probably takes me out of McCarthy range (but I might get lucky), doesn't really help me to much this year, but man, the 2025 picks will be nice, because I don't know if Denver is going to be very good this year. And if the Pats stink in 2024, then their 2025 draft is going to be lit with both NE and Denver's picks.
This is a difficult choice. Curious what SOSH would do with this decision. Which trade would you take?
Well...I'm going with the Denver offer, mainly because I'm assuming the Pats won't be very good in 2024 regardless, so may as well load up.
And.......crap. McCarthy gets picked at #11 by Minnesota. UGH.
And now Tampa is on the phone wanting #12. Their offer: My #12 for their #26, #57, #89, and a 2025 first rounder. Since we're all in on the 2025 train, let's do it.
At #26 I take OT Tyler Guyton from Oklahoma. Now I'm on the clock for #34, and I get an offer from Arizona to trade #34 for their #35 and a 2025 third round pick. I accept that one, only moving back one spot.
At #35 I have an interesting choice. I can get OG Christian Haynes from UConn, who could move to C, and the Pats probably need a C for the future, and Haynes is fantastic. Adding two long-term starters on the OL would be great building blocks for this team. But also: Nix and Penix are still on the board. Oh man I love Haynes but I also need to at least take a chance on a QB. Both Nix and Penix have pluses and minuses. Very difficult call. I don't love Nix or Penix, but they both could be good too. And that's the most important position of need. But since we're all in on 2025, let's add the OL and I draft Haynes.
Now I'm up again at #57. But Buffalo is willing to trade me #60 and #128 for #57 and #231. Sure.
At #60 I take WR Polk from Washington. He's really good. Happy at this point to still be able to draft a quality WR.
Up again at #68, and I am ecstatic to be able to double up on WR, and I take Legette from South Carolina.
Next pick is at #89, and now I've got two franchise OL and two potential starters at WR. Other than the QB, I'm suddenly very happy with this draft. I can still take OT Fisher from ND, or OT Amegadjie from Yale, or add another WR in Wilson from FSU. Either would be very interesting. Do I really load up on either position here, or go for a TE or RB or even a CB? I could also pick Rattler at QB and see if he turns into something. Obviously a skilled player, but I don't love that he's only 6'0".
As fun as it would be to load up more on offense, the team always has needs at CB, so I take Renardo Green from FSU here.
Now at #128. TE Jared Wiley from TCU is the pick. Huge and a very good receiver, he could be the TE of the future for the Pats.
Now at #137, and it's totally BPA at this point. I see DT Jordan Jefferson is available. He's really good. Hard to believe he's still on the board. Pairing him with Barmore will be very nice. He's the pick.
At #147, still BPA. Could use more defensive help on the back end. I go with S Kitan Oladapo from Oregon. 6'2", monster hitter. Not great in slot coverage but he's a hammer back there.
At #180, I was hoping that Joe Milton would still be on the board, but he isn't. So I take QB Hartman from Notre Dame. A project, and not very big, but he can throw. Worth a shot at this point.
Finally, last pick at #193. I go with RB Dillon Johnson from Washington. I thought he was pretty good this year, both as a runner and receiver. Happily will take a chance on him.
So this is what I end up with:
View attachment 79908
Very happy with OL improvement. Very happy with the two WRs and the TE I took. Also happy that I shored up the defense too with Green, Jefferson, and Oladapo. And the last two picks...meh, whatever. Maybe they'll be something.
But added four very nice picks for 2025, so in 2025 I now have three first rounders, two second rounders, and two third rounders (not counting any comp picks I accumulate). So that gives me the ability to move up and pick a QB I like next year if I want.
If we come out of this draft without one of the top 3 (or 4, whatever) QBs and don't have an additional #1 for next year I want everyone fired. If we "roll with Rourke" I want everyone fired.Maye fell to #3 and the Giants offered #6 and #47, which I felt was maybe a bit light, but none of the reasonable seeming counters were acceptable. Top OT on the board. Extreme run on OTs in the first leaves the best OC available at #34. Sweat was too good to pass up there and would seem a good match next to Barmore. Sinnott was basically BPA and need. Not sure he's the best fit and I could have waited until later on TE. The rest are projects at various positions of need, but I think players that have at least a decent chance to make an NFL roster and be game competitive at some point in their careers. The QB being the biggest project of them all. Roll with Rourke and this kind of talent infusion can potentially pay dividends year two or three of the rebuild. I believe year three under Mayo should be the reasonable expectation for fielding a competitive team.
