Second half:
- 1st - Jrue with soft close-out on Jovic.
- 2nd - Jrue guarding Herro; MIA runs staggered screen with Martin and then Bam; Jrue doesn't get over Martin screen so he stays with him; JT gets hung up on Bam's screen while KP drops; Herro gets wide-open 3P. JT probably should have fought over Bam's screen better but can't give Jrue any demerits on this one.
- 3rd - Another Herro-Bam PnR. Jrue kind of gets over Bam's screen but KP is in no-person's land and Bam gets the alley-oop. Grade it how you want.
- 4th - the infamous Bam pick on JB that everyone (including JB but excluding the refs) thought was a foul.
- 5th - Jrue not on court
- 6th - Robinson-Bam PnR. Hauser was guarding Robinson; Al was guarding Bam. This was a good contest by Sam; Robinson just hit it. Jrue was in the corner
- 7th - this clip doesn't start off early enough to tell exactly what's going on but as best as I can tell, another Herro Bam PnR but Hauser is guarding Herro and Al is guarding Bam. Heat have two players on the strongside - Robinson, guarded by PP, and someone I can't make out but it looks to be Highsmith, guarded by Jrue. Herro doesn't use the pick well so Hauser is trailing him. Hauser comes off Highsmith to prevent Herro from getting to the rim, which seems appropriate to me. Highsmith (?) sinks to the corner; Robinson rises up to above-the-break. PP stays on Robinson, appropriately. Herro pitches the ball to Highsmith. Jrue gets a great contest but Highsmith pulls the ball back and then shoots and makes it. I can't give any demerits to Jrue on this play.
- 8th - Bam takes Al off the dribble to the paint. As I don't have the sound on, I can't tell what EG wants to happen but from his drawing, I presume he wants someone (Jrue, JT?) to help. I think all of us SOSHers have agreed that allowing Bam to have as many 2P turn-arounds in the paint is fine. I think the Cs agree with this too. No demerits to anyone on BOS
- 9th - Another Herro Bam PnR. Jrue is guarding the Heat player in the dunker spot. JB is the next player over to the weak side guarding Martin. Herro does the pocket pass to Bam. Again, don't know what EG is complaining about but this time JB hedges leaving Martin fairly open for a 3P. However, Bam just takes it himself and hits a 16 foot jumper over Al.
(As a side note, watching these two plays back-to-back, where it seems that EG is criticizing the Cs in one instance for not helping and in the next for helping, and both leading to Bam mid-range jumpers, does not inspire in me confidence that EG really knows what he's talking about.)
- 10th - another Bam/Herro PnR, this time JT is guarding Herro and KP is guarding Bam. MIA has two players on the strong side - someone (I'll just say Highsmith again) guarded by Jrue and Robinson guarded by JB. While Herro gets over the screen, Highsmith sinks to the corner. JT does a pretty good job getting over the screen while JB and Jrue switch players so JB is now on the guy in the corner. Jrue is just outside the FT line to stop Herro penetration. Herro pulls up and passes to Robinson. Jrue has a soft close-out and doesn't get his hand up in time; Robinson makes it. Jrue probably could have done a better close-out on this one.
- 11th - another Bam/Herro PnR, but this time Herro is going left into the lane. DW is on Herro, KP is on Bam. Interesting that KP is up higher on this PnR. JT is on the screener side guarding Jaquez (I think); Jrue is guarding the guy in the dunker's spot. DW gets hung up on the screen; Herro shot fakes and then delivers it to a rolling Bam. DW is out of the play. Both Jrue and JT steps up (I think EG wanted JT to step up further) but JT is there first. DW follows the ball and Jaquez is wide-open for a 3P but Bam takes 10 foot floater over JT and makes it. As I said above, I think we'd all be happy if Bam took 10 of these floaters over JT.
- 12th - another Bam/Herro PnR, with Herro is going left into the lane. DW is guarding Martin the next person over. This is an interesting coverage. When Herro initiates the PnR, DW points to KP as if to say get out of there. Jrue gets hung up on Bam's screen but White is there to pick up Herro and Jrue stays with Bam. KP rushes to the corner, leaving JB as the man who has to slide up to cover Martin. JB has an at least okay contest. Jaquez was the next man in the corner; KP really has to hustle to get over to him if Martin moves the ball. But Martin didn't move the ball; he drained the shot. I think this is pretty decent defense on everyone's part.
- 13th - Jrue has picked up Herro near half-court. Jaquez comes out to screen. There is momentarily some confusion as to who has Jaquez but JT goes out after him. Herro goes right; Jrue does a pretty good job of avoiding the screen but Herro has Jrue on his hip. JT stays with Jaquez and does not show to slow Herro down. DW is guarding Martin in the corner and also does not show to slow Herro down. KP is the rim-protector and waits until Herro is in the paint and takes off. Herro hits a nice right-handed bank shot over KP.
BTW, I'm not listening to EG but it seems like he's asking KP to step up on Bam picks - that's not BOS's defense and I don't think will be in this series ever. Kind of weird if he's saying that.
At any rate, EG broke down 24 plays. There's one Bam-Herro PnR that KP and Jrue probably could have played better than resulted in a slam. There's one instance of Herro just beating Jrue off a pick but Jrue didn't get any help on this. There are two instances of soft-close outs.
I don't think Jrue was the problem in G2.
