If I was Montgomery I would just walk in the room and say “This is why you lost in the playoffs last year. You’re soft as fuck, and everyone with any size knows they can push you around. Especially you defenseman” And then leave. Sure I’d get fired when they don’t respond, but I wouldn’t be wrong.
This is everything. It’s been this way for a long time. The Blues bullied them like they were the Canucks circa 2011.
It’s a bridge year, so I’m trying to not overreact, but….oy. The secondary scoring is an issue.
This issue is really that Sweeney needs to find skilled guys that also are tough. I’m not talking about fighting. I’m talking about winning pucks, getting to the net, clearing the crease, etc. the toughness that matters.
Guys that play with desperation. Too many played that other guys around the league would consider nice guys on this team.
Pat Maroon can’t play hockey anymore, but I would take that guy in heartbeat, you know why? Because he would walk in that room and call everyone a bunch of wusses. And they need to hear that.
Shattenkirk just turned the puck over then covered McAvoy’s guy. Got in his way and still let him to the front of the net.
That was Shattenkirk’s fault but McAvoy needs to get his head out of his ass. He hasn’t been the same since that suspension. Montgomery needs to earn his money there.
McAvoy & Pastrnak just got hurt on the same shift down 4-0 and nobody on this roster is doing shit.
They need to release a couple guys. Someone needs to get fired. I nominate Shattenkirk. Fire his ass.
Crazy thing is, the team behind the Bruins gave up 9 to Buffalo last night so nobody has a sense of urgency.
Cut Heinen too. Yeah he hasn’t been bad, but he doesn’t do anything positive and we can do better there. He the Alex Verdugo of hockey.
He had some pretty gorgeous apples earlier in the season, I remember. Savvy PKer too, no? I feel like he's got some Swiss Army Knife usefulness to this squad and cap situation.

Agreed. And Shatty’s a TO machine who isn’t fast enough to atone for his own gaffs. Could use somebody with a snarl on D to move some bodies around in close. Teams are firing at will from the slot and getting all the loose change while paying no price. It’s disturbing.
Not one of these d-men is doing anything to move guys from the front of the net. The whole league knows now they can set up in the blue paint, screen the goalies and there'll be no price to pay. How many times did that happen tonight? Doesn't matter how good your goalies are.
With you. I have been waiting for Zboril to make good on the apparently eye-popping promise he was showing in Provy — at least by the analytics — a couple seasons ago.
I don't think cutting .7 ppg forwards on $1m deals - regardless of how much is on the PP - would be wise for them.
The NESN Facebook page posted a picture of Alex with Brickey, welcoming him as a guest announcer. Hundreds of comments about Jack followed, one suggesting he was being treated for "mitochondrial dysfunction". It's Facebook, so you can't take that to the bank.

I’m not sure if they’re unwilling to do it, or worried about guys flopping and the refs calling penalties, but either way they gotta figure it out, because any team with size is going to try to live in the crease.
Fair. Last 110 or so reg season games have set unrealistic expectations for this group, I think middle of playoff picture is just fine as long as they can get healthy around the stretch run
