Yeah. First it’s not a pen because it was offside first - which if it was, was not a good offside call- then no, it wasn’t offside, it wasn’t handball.
Lampard said his three year old daughter knew it was a handball and it was incompetence at best. He’ll get fined of course.
It is a shame because Everton fully deserved at least a point. Not going to look for the tweets but here are two nuggets: xG first half was Everton 0.54 - City 0.14, the lowest xG for City in a half this season; and this is the only game this season where thee opposition had more completed passes into the City box than City intO it’s. Of course other stats favor City but until Everton started to tire in the second half they were the better side and it wasn’t a close call. Back four was workmanlike, nothing fancy but doing the job. Vdb, Doucoure and Allan look a fantastic midfield three, Vdb the passer, Douc the box to box, and Allan the destroyer. Iwobi was weak on one eing but that could be Gray. Gordon is excellent. The lines moved together very well, disciplined, leaving no space for City to get cute.
The goal was cheap, a double deflection off Holgate and Keane that fell to Foden for a tap in. I was angry at Keane but on seeing it again he got wrong footed and I can’t blame him. And Lampard screwed up by not making subs earlier, Toffees were gassed.
But it’s not a moral victory to say Everton deserved a point. The City players knew it. Pep knew it. Everyone in the park knew it.
