NBA confirms the illegal screen, says they missed the kicked ball, and calls 2 other plays against Indiana that they missed.

Still, there were a total of four missed calls in the final two minutes, according to the league's report: Turner should have been whistled for a separate illegal screen on DiVincenzo in the backcourt with about 10 seconds remaining; there was an errant kicked ball violation called on Aaron Nesmith with 53 seconds left; and prior to those, officials missed calling a defensive three seconds violation on Turner with 1:19 left.

Hartenstein for 48. I'd buy whatever his over is on rebounds
Nah. Achiuwa matches up pretty well against Indiana, he just needs to adjust his game a bit. The Knicks have basically played since January without Mitch but no doubt we need him for a long run against better teams. The Knicks are still gonna get past the Pacers but they needed Bog and Mitch against a team like Boston to even stretch the series IMO.

I was kind of joking but Hartenstein played 36 minutes last night with MRob & PA playing.

I suspect this is going 7.

Robinson, like Embiid, came back earlier than planned and not fully healthy to try to help in the playoffs. Get better, Mitch, see you next season.

NY is now down three frontcourt guys, Randle, Bogdanovic, Robinson.

Whoever called that the NBA would do forensic grade analysis to find a missed 3 seconds call on Indiana nailed it.

I seriously doubt there exists on earth a person who follows basketball at all and will defend that screen foul call with a straight face.

The NBA of course paid someone to write L2M, but I absolutely beleive that person did not have a straight face while doing so.

I will say, in the prior series with the 76ers the L2M report for multiple games did call out the officiating on game-deciding plays without seeming to try to balance it in the other direction.

In this case, seems like less so. They were never going to reverse course on that illegal screen call (regardless of how unnecessary / absurd it was) given that they had the opportunity to stand behind the "letter of the law" defense.

Well, the screen was technically a foul, but it's usually not called. (ed-ususally not called when the movement is, to use Doris Burke's favorite word, "marginal")

The kicked ball was ridiculous and a huge call and it's mind-boggling that all the refs missed it or that it was called at all.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a play where a referee mistook a hand for a sneaker.

I personally think it was just the NBA equivalent of a "lazy" call. I was watching that play somewhat distractedly on a small screen, and in realtime I assumed it was probably a kickball just given it had some of the usual makings of one (although honestly the letter of the law means it shouldn't have been a kickball even if it hit the defender's foot, since kickballs are supposed to have some intent to them). Then on replay of course it was very obviously not one.

I think there was probably 1 ref that made that call from an angle where he didn't see very much, just some of the common signs of a kickball, and he thus gave Brunson a "star whistle" kind of credit where he assumed Brunson must have known what he was doing throwing that pass and that the defender must have been at fault. Then he consulted with noone else, and it turned out to be unreviewable.

Just kind of a general lazy incompetence that nobody cares about in the 2nd quarter of a January game but had a major impact here.

I wouldn’t joke about it. If Hartenstein stays out of foul trouble he’ll play 40+ minutes. Thibs isn’t playing Achiuwa more than a quick 3-4 min rotation around the quarter breaks unless he’s forced to by foul trouble.

I disagree, Achiuwa is hard to play as the 4 alongside Hartenstein or Robinson, but as the backup center, he will get maybe 12-15 minutes and more if it seems like he can guard Turner.

These two teams played a game in NY on Feb 1 (IND at full strength, NY with the same team they will have for game 2 minus Anunoby) and Achiuwa played 43 minutes and had 16 boards in a 109-105 win. Of course, Achiuwa looks like he played the 4 alongside Hartenstein/Sims for that whole game, so what do I know.

Love the full court pressure from Indy. If the Knicks starters are going to play 45 minutes, make them pay.

Achiuwa is going to kill Thibs. He’s been in the game :30 seconds and been out of position on 3 consecutive Pacers baskets at the rim.

Edit: Possibly 4 then allows the tap out for a Pacer basket. Good thing he scored twice it may have saved Thibs life.

Not every day you see a double digit lead blown in less than a minute.
lol no kidding.

Pacers are showing some good ball movement, especially with McConnell and Haliburton on the floor at the same time.

I've seen that called not a foul (Because the ball was gone before contact) several times this year, so I have no idea what they are calling anymore.

Or his own.

Yeah those first few defensive possessions from him were LOL bad.

Some sloppy play but the general overall effort/intensity in this game is 2-3x anything the Celtics have shown all season, playoffs included. Hopefully we can ramp it up.

Great first quarter, but the Knicks can't win at this pace.
Agreed - Pacers pressing some on and visibly pushing the ball up on offense are betting Knicks cannot keep it up given thin bench.

I have zero idea what Knicks can and can't do---they have been conditioning guys differently all year, but it's a good thing for Pacers to push on regardless

Not good defensively? Cause the shot making and ball movement has been great.
It's up and down, not playoff-ish. Very playground style. A locked-in D like Boston or Minny would make most of this ball movement and shotmaking go away fast.
