Even with suggested pay raise and pumped up title, I just wonder how many times LJ is willing to accept the role of bridesmaid. Granted, for the longest time PS (Pre-Scandal) it looked like JoePa was going to stay until he dehydrated from age and blew away. In that scenario no one was going anywhere. But now, in the span of a little over 2 years - in the immediate-post scandal fiasco-naming-of-Tom Bradley-as-interim fallout, the national search that lead to BO'B's hiring, and now this, LJ was within immediate striking distance and was bypassed, LJ must be miffed to some degree that the school did not immediately look within to a loyal soldier, all the comments about no head coaching experience notwithstanding. I can understand if he walks.
Of course, LJ may be a person who is content to never head the fray, but to excel at what he knows best and to fit well within the well-developed schema of someone who has experience running the whole show.
All I know is that LJ, alongside Tom Bradley, is one of if not the best assistant coaches not only on the Penn State staff, but likely on any staff in the country. A coach who not only has produced an army of NFL talent, but who has also sat in the living rooms and kitchens, and sat in stands of untold high school games, and met with scores of the HS coaches of promising recruits all over the east coast and beyond - and achieved great success in those visits. In many cases - probably even more so than JoePa (especially in the past 10 years) LJ had MORE influence in a prospect's decision to join the Nittany nation.
I hope whomever the next HC is, that he does whatever needed, and that the school will support, to keep him at his rightfully and hard-earned place of respect.
