PSG is through, 3-1 after CAvani scores.
I doubt ter Stegen had a chance, but he didn´t look too interested in that overhead save.

This ref is not having any of Ney. Frankly, I'm not having much of him either.

Edit: Arda on now too. Iniesta looked off the pace from the first step.

Emery decides to play a terribly scared match, and he forgot to coach his players to play until the end.

What a remarkable finish, and credit to Barca for pulling that off.

But, come on, PSG. What a pathetic performance.

Holy fuck, that was crazy. So much for me catching a PSG QF match next month when I'm over there.

My Barca fan coworker is watching this at work and has been freaking out all afternoon. So funny watching his reaction.

Honestly, I don't think he did this. If he had played a formation more conservative than a 4-2-3-1 I'd be inclined to agree, but he stuck with his guns. The mistake was starting Lucas over Di Maria. ADM would've made Barca pay for leaving gaps at the back. Exactly like the first leg.

Told my Barca buddy that this was going to be like the Pats. He hates the Pats with the vengeance of 10 suns, but he was OK with it.

David Cartlidge, a soccer journalist, writes on Twitter, "The fear, the nerves, ignoring positive game plan and setting up a deep shape. All very much signs of full Emery".

PSG didn't even play that badly, it's not like Barca were creating great chances left and right. The OG was horribly unlucky, the Suarez pen was extremely soft, they had two pretty strong penalty claims of their own waived off + they hit the post. Even the first penalty, while a clear pen, was more the result of the defender slipping and falling over than actually bad play.

Maybe you can watch them get housed by mid-table laggards again, who haven't a tenth the budget they do, like Guingamp or Montpellier.

Jokes aside, they do have the Coupe de la Ligue final on April 1st, down in Lyon, and the Coupe de France QF up in Caen on April 4th.

Will be in Paris the 11th-16th so the hope was to time the CL match if they had the home tie that week. It's probably for the better anyways. The Mrs.agreed to and is excited for the Eintracht Frankfurt match we'll catch in Germany but the 2nd match and a shortened night on the town in Paris was going to be a tough sell.

The Suarez penalty wasn't soft, it was flat out wrong. He decided to go down long before any small, incidental contact with his knee, and grabbing at his neck just makes him look worse.

He is a piece of shit of the highest order.

I'm glad you pointed this out. I watched the reply a handful of times just to catch this move. I know all players try to sell the foul, but Suarez is one of the worst in the business.

He fully deserved the yellow for simulation earlier, and it's kinda ballsy of him to be willing to risk a red card there for a chance at drawing the PK. Not that he's afraid of risking a red when the stakes justify it, perhaps more than anyone. A scumbag, but a tactically brilliant scumbag.

I actually find Neymar far more whiny far more of the time. His penalty-draw on Meunier at 50' who had tripped and fallen and Neymar just ran over him, fell to the ground, and got whiny, was only slightly less-shitty than Suarez.

Porto are down to ten after a defender handled a shot on goal. Juventus scored the penalty, so Porto are tasked with scoring three in the second half down a man.

Holy crap Leicester got another goal.

So if Leicester wins the CL (I know, but bear with me) and Man United wins Europa but finishes outside of the top 4, does that mean that the 4th place PL team goes to Europa? Because I would die of mirth if that were the case.
Yes, max of five teams in CL. 4th-7th would be EL (EDIT: unless someone 4th-7th won CL/EL)

California. Duh.
Is it a rare occurrence, of late, for an English club to defeat a Spanish club in European knockout?
Yeah, Spain has been pretty dominant lately in both the CL and Europa. Liverpool did manage to knock Villarreal out of the Europa semis last year, but then lost to Sevilla in the final.

Nasri butts heads with Vardy after Vardy pushes him, they both get yellows but Nasri already had one, he's off. Sevilla had a move with a long time on the ball with Leicester parked in the box.

someone was asking before if Dortmund's Cup match was as chippy as it sounded on radio.

This right here, LCFC-Sevilla, this is a chippy match.

The Divine Ponytail deserves better than references like this.
Eh, I had the same thought.

Anyhoo, couple of interesting matches today - MANC up 5-3 on Monaco in what was one of the best wide open matches of high-level football I can remember. Atleti has a 4-2 lead over Leverkusen from the first leg in that tie. I think both MANC and Atleti progress (really walking out on that limb, I know). But, provided Leverkusen and Monaco score the first couple of goals, these matches could be really entertaining.

No lead is safe against Monaco. I know what game I'll have on on my second screen at work.

Also, lost in Leicester's win is that Kasper Schmeichel faced two penalty kicks against Sevilla, one in each leg, and SAVED BOTH OF THEM. Let in the first one and Leicester still advances on away goals, let in the second and they go to extra time, let in both and their dream is over. As good as he is, that is some serious horseshoe-up-the-ass stuff.
