How is all of this happening if free agency doesn't start until tomorrow afternoon?

Hmmmm... shouldn't be unless the player was released versus his contract expired.

Then again, the NFL has always picked and chose when to enforce the tampering rules. So doubt they will do anything about tampering in the legal tampering window even though they aren't supposed to announce deals until Free agency starts.

My guess is that this mostly coming from the agents. During the legal tampering period, you can reach an agreement in principle, so long as it isn't inked and so long as it is understood that it's not binding. Clubs can't announce deals, but I'm not sure the league has any authority to punish agents -- other than maybe by revoking their registration or whatever, and I don't think it would do that for leaking info a day or two earlier than permitted.

Nothing can be finalized until tomorrow so technically deals can still be reneged. However, the NFL allows teams to negotiate with players beginning March 7. Here is the memo the league sent out:

“During the two-day negotiating period, all clubs may negotiate all aspects of an NFL Player Contract with the certified agent of any prospective UFA. However, a new club may not execute an NFL Player Contract with a prospective UFA until 4:00 p.m., New York time, on March 9, when the player’s 2016 contract expires.”

In the past teams would sign FAs the second free agency began so obviously tampering was going on. This way the NFL allows a two day window for "Legal tampering".

Red's post did not show up on my phone. On the mobile app, unless a poster actually posts what a twitter feed says, it is unreadable on the app. So kindly, lay off the snark. I thought it was general policy to post both the twitter feed and what it says in English? Maybe I'm mistaken? If it's just my phone please accept my apology.

The New England Patriots are considering trading Malcolm Butler to the New Orleans Saints for Brandin Cooks per sources
Interesting, to say the least. Seems like an oddball source for this story -- I've never heard of this reporter. Not sure why you'd object to paying Butler but are OK paying Gilmore, but in BB I trust.

Its FA and Trade season, so if you're posting tweets, please do this. Many have same concern when on mobile.
