Oh are we still making fun of Gase? Good.

When it comes to Gase, I'll go with eye popping, not eye opening.

Douglas was a great hire; he'll definitely upgrade the talent of the team.Joe Douglas is a really good hire. I have been doing a lot of research on front offices for ITP, and I was stunned at how much turnover there was in the Philly front office. There are not a lot of Reid holdovers. Douglas had to build that scouting team from the ground up.
That's huge to me. I think one of the problems teams run into is that they hire great evaluators who aren't necessarily great managers. The GM has a lot of of managerial responsibilities. Douglas is a great evaluator who has also proven himself to be a great manager. He'll have stuff he needs to learn - Roseman is one of the best cap guys in the business, so Douglas has likely barely done anything there - but he would have been on my short list for sure.
Douglas cut his teeth under Ozzie Newsome and Phil Savage in BAL, so he's, what, the 8th Belichick GM in the league? BB, Douglas and DeCosta (both indirect), Dimitroff, Licht, Quinn, Robinson - seven, I guess. You could make arguments for John Lynch and Mike Mayock (played for BB) and Dave Caldwell (indirect). Not bad.
That's a big blow to a fairly flimsy defense.Jets have lost starting LB Avery Williamson for the season with a torn ACL suffered in last night's game. He was out there playing with the backups deep into the game

Fair. I guess I look at them as flimsy now that Williamson is out. Loved his sideline to sideline speed. While he isnt in the Koechly/Wagner class of middle linebackers, hes probably in that next tier down.It is a big loss. The d is not bad except for corner which is likely the worst in the league which is a huge problem. Could also use an OLB.
Edit: depth on this team is a disaster but the new gm is trying
Still, Jets outlook seems brightest since the 2006 season, when Pennington & Co. went 10-6. This includes the heady Sexy Rexy days, when Sanchez was always a few quarters away from being a bust (i.e., the first half vs the Steelers after beating NE).It is a big loss. I think the Bills have a chance to be sneaky good this season. They had the expected step-back season after the step up. So much depends on Allen's development, but would be surprised to see both the Bills and Jets in the 8-8 to 10-6 rangeI'll certainly take this roster over the Miami or the Bills any day.
I agree with you. The Bills have all around a strong roster while they continue to build the supporting staff around Allen. However their defense is already v good and with their younger pieces could easily be a top 5 unit. Wouldn't shock me if they are a playoff team.I think the Bills have a chance to be sneaky good this season. They had the expected step-back season after the step up. I like their WR's on paper. Enunwa, Anderson, and Crowder have a chance to be pretty good together along with Le'Veon Bell, Ty Montgomery, and TE Chris Herndon after his 4-game suspension. Their OL has been banged up but if healthy adding vet guys like Kalil, Osemele, and Beachum should give Darnold decent time to throw the ball. Secondary wise, their corners stink but Adams and Maye form one of the better safety combos in the league.I agree with you. The Jets OTOH have a shitty secondary, a banged up LB core, and yes, a good DL.
Offensively their OL is in shambles and their receivers are mediocre. I don't get the Jets love this year.
They just cut a third round pick.
A 2019 third round pick.

In his first post-mortem as Jets coach, Adam Gase fired off critical comments about the offensive line, receivers (a thinly veiled shot at Robby Anderson), cornerbacks and the defense for how poorly it played in the aftermath of C.J. Mosley's injury. But the capper was this: Asked why RB Ty Montgomery played only five snaps, Gase refused to give an explanation and said defiantly: "That's the beauty part of being the head coach – I can basically do what I want." This sort of comment only reinforces his reputation as a control freak, which started in Miami. Maybe he was just grumpy after a brutal loss. It's something that bears watching because criticism can wear thin in the locker room.
Woof. I always liked Enunwa. He's battled groin and other minor injuries during camp too.Quincy Enunwa done for the year with a neck injury. This has to be why the Jets were looking for a WR.

Maybe he got it from kissing the turf last week. It’s a blessing until this oline figures out how to block
Maybe the Patriots can get him back for a conditional seventhYikes. What a disastrous day of news. Poor Demaryius.

Pat Thorman listened to the Rich Eisen radio show this morning
Trememdous thread title. Fireman Ed nods in agreement.
And I'm going to watch every minute of every single one of these games.Jets upcoming schedule:
vs. Cleveland
@ Pats
BYE
@ Philly
vs. Dallas
vs. Pats
0-6 looks like a real possibility.
We try not to kink shame here, but that's pretty hardcore man. I guess if you're into that...And I'm going to watch every minute of every single one of these games.
Premature but serious question:And I'm going to watch every minute of every single one of these games.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it also not uncommon for athletes to lose a ton of weight while they have mono, relatively speaking?6 weeks is usual for mono because of the risk of splenic rupture (as natty correctly points out above).
In the Jets' case, they may MRI him to determine if his spleen is enlarged...we don't routinely do this so we just tell folks no contact sports for 6 weeks to be safe. He may be back sooner with some reassuring imaging studies. Some mono patients suffer from EXTREME fatigue for months after exposure. Hopefully, he's back healthy soon.
My brother is a Jets fan.
EDIT: typos
If the Jets do spiral down out of this situation, those Miami games on their schedule might be must-watchThe #1 pick would bring a huge return for a team that didn’t need a QB. I would say that a Year 3 Darnold would be significantly better than a Year 1 Tua.
Reported this morning that Darnold has already lost more than 5 poundsCorrect me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it also not uncommon for athletes to lose a ton of weight while they have mono, relatively speaking?
Bravo on the thread title change. Well done indeed.

Thank you, gentlemen.Great thread title....oh and eff the Jets.
Thank you, gentlemen.
I am actually not happy about this news. A competitive Jets team is always more fun. Having mono really sucks. This guarantees a top 10 pick.
If and when Gase is fired and a competent coaching staff is put in place, watch out.
Premature but serious question:
If Jets season falls apart by this and they get #1 pick. Would you rather have Tua and trade Darnold or vice versa? I would presume that trading Tua would yield a greater return.
Look at their schedule. It doesn't even matter if he is playing in weeks 5-7, they're likely to lose anyway. The idea that the jets season is absolutely definitely over is a bit over the top. One of the weeks he’s missing is their bye week.
Thank you, gentlemen.
