Now that's a name I would expect they would kick the tires on. He is a good defender, can distribute a bit, rebound a touch and is a decent finisher. He cannot shoot. Btw, Tatum and Smith Jr. were close when they were younger.
Who knows what Evans looks like at 32 after not being in the league for 3 years but couldn’t disagree more with him being pretty bad at the end……he was talked about as a guy to sneak onto the All-Star Team his second to last year in Indiana when he was phenomenal in having his best season as a pro. I don’t know what happened that last year in Memphis…..bad fit, drugs, or whatever but he didn’t suddenly go from All-Star to bad overnight without some mitigating factor. If Tyreke was right (obv longshot) he’d be the perfect fit for Ime’s system.
I was wondering the same thing. That last year in Indiana was really bad, but he had a career year at 28. He's a big guard, a good passer, and really improved as a shooter. Seems like exactly the sort of guard we could take a cheap flier on. There's plenty of accountability on this Celtics team - if he's not a fit, like Jabari Parker, he'll be gone.
Maybe, but to me, he was bad in IND, and he was pretty bad in the split NOP/SAC year, and in-between is Memphis (I think you're mixing them up) where he had a career year mostly on the back of some great shooting luck, particularly on high dribble count pull-up 3s.
I feel like Evans benefitted from 1) starting out incredibly hot and 2) the expectation that he would some day reach his apparent ceiling. So there was always a little growth projection in there.
But at 32 and post-drug suspension, I think we can say that projection is history. I’d be surprised if someone picks him up.
As for buyout guys, you’re looking for guys to mop up minutes and not fuck up team chemistry. Maybe someone who can be a flier long term like DSJ.

Yeah my dyslexia cropped up with the Memphis/Indiana mix up. Reke does have a comp though in Andrew Wiggins dad Mitchell. He missed two full seasons only to return at age 30 to put up his best professional season. I wouldn’t count out Evans if he’s clean, in shape and motivated.

I wasn't expecting much and they could just be filler contracts, but I'm guessing we aren't getting much better.
I want Kelan Martin to develop the fervent fanbase that Broderick Thomas currently enjoys. The only person who can stop Kelan Martin and/or Broderick Thomas is Ime Udoka.
There's probably more to these signings than meets the eye, but sometimes it seems like the C's aren't much interested in incremental improvement.
Dragic was almost certainly not joining the Cs and Carter wasn't a fit. If they pass on a DSJ or a Harris, (who is now rumored to be staying put) then you may be correct. However outside of Goran, who is older than space dust, there are mostly scrubs out there. And if T-Boz, Left Eye (RIP) and Chilli taught me anything back in the day, its that they get no love from me.
Mentioned it in the other thread, but the Celtics were basically required by rule to fill two roster spots in the next couple days (you can only be at 12 for a certain number of days), both guys on 10-days, says they want to see who gets bought out.
Honestly, I doubt there is much out there, but you at least want to wait to see what it is before you make rest of season decisions.

Funny thing is....
these are probably 2 of the 10 or so best options right now that you could sign to a 10 day, the cupboard is real bare of quality bench guys who aren't injured.

Fitts is apparently a terrific athlete who shot 40% from 3P in college on volume and plays incredibly hard but has as his one weakness not a great feel for actually playing basketball. https://www.nbadraft.net/players/malik-fitts/

I remember laughing at some of Fitts’s game tape a couple of years ago pre-draft. To put it mildly he was kind of a spazz on the defensive end of the court.
He reminded me, physically, of a young Calvin Natt, he was 6’6” (or so) and around 230 with big time athleticism. And offensively he abused forwards in the paint. And he was a pretty good shooter to boot.
But on the defensive end of the court there was never any telling what he’d do from moment to moment. Where it really showed was when he got switched onto smaller guys, who could blow by him at will. And not because they were quicker because they often weren’t. He was just too easily distracted.

These are 10 day guys brought in to be practice and deep bench guys, but without a full season committment so that they can be jettisoned if need be.
Thomas has decent hops, can handle the ball, shot 40+% from 3P in the G League, and though I can't find it now, I thought he was guarding the best opposing wing every night in Maine. He also went to a Division II school so he's likely not a finished product. He's certainly intruiging so count me in.

“I think the No. 1 thing when you look at our team is we have pretty good depth down the line with ballhandlers. We have pretty good depth with the addition of Kornet and Theis with our bigs. We want to make sure we are as fortified in the wing area and specifically in versatile wings that can guard a number of positions and can be 3-and-D type plug-in players. I think that’s really important. I’m excited to learn more about Malik (Fitts) and Kenan (Martin). There’s a natural connection that could be made to Kenan but I never coached him (at Butler). I followed him closely and his improvement has been really good and I thought he had a good stint with the Pacers. Both of those guys are big, strong guys that can guard a number of positions and that are hungry.
I think one of the things I’m really alert to as we figure out how to fortify the roster with our biggest needs is those guys that are going to be able to add to the environment because the environment is really good right now. Everybody is pulling in a good direction. Our focus right now is on wings and we will see where the rest of the 22 games take us. We do have some flexibility here moving forward which is good.”

If Martin could shoot in the NBA like he did in the G-League, or even his last year at Butler he could be an NBA rotation player, his defense isn't good, but it also isn't bad. The problem is a switchable defender who hits 31% of his 3s has to be really good on D, if he was shooting 36-38% from 3 (he shot 36 in college, 38 in G-League on good volume), he's suddenly really interesting as he's a close to neutral defender.
Brad is on my jetblue flight from LAX to BOS right now. We're both in the last row (different classes though, lol). He was totally cool at the gate, even though I likely wasn't. My 11 year old spotted him (ever since she found out that we had a layover in LA, she was geeked up for a celebrity sighting, although I think she was hoping for a Jenner). Brad didn't really engage when I mentioned how good the team was looking but really perked up when I mentioned that we go to Red Claws games.
