From NBA University Twitter
7 players have attempted 300+ (!) catch & shoot FGA this season. In order of efficiency:

1. Lauri Markkanen—62.5 EFG%
2. Donte DiVincenzo—61.7%
3. Tim Hardaway Jr.—56.1%
4. Klay Thompson—55.4%
5. Bogdan Bogdanovic—54.6%
6. Max Strus—53.4%
7. Nikola Vucevic—43.0% (yikes!)

Some surprising things here that I wasn’t expecting.

I just looked at their schedule through March. They're going to finish under .500
Man, you're not kidding. After Washington, they play 17 of 22 games against the top half of the league and something like 11 of those are against the top 8.

I didn't realize how elite DiVincenzo had been this year: 42% from 3 on high volume. Man. Knicks could be a real problem with the team they've assembled.

It's funny to think back to when they had an amazing net rating from whomping Detroit and Washington every other game, and Zach Lowe was sploogeing about how they might be contenders.

Obviously the Embiid injury is killing them, but they got really overrated on the back of an easy early schedule and a hot period against the league's dregs.

this is so dumb
Right? Depressingly so....

And I'm surprised Klay is that high, too. That said, I don't think you're watching if you think he's a corpse. He's now just an okay player (who too often thinks he's still a stud) who no longer is that great defensive player he once was. But on offense he's still a good cog particularly when he doesn't take on too much. I hear whoever posted about their recent weak competition, but all the same I'd remain bullish on the Warriors. I think by the end of the season they'll at least be in the play-in and will be very dangerous. People are too quick to bury vet teams like that mid-season, but like the Heat and Lakers they're likely to be better in the post-season but more so: integrating in some really interesting young pieces makes them for sure better than they were last season when they had a decent enough run.

His shooting is average at best right now (.417 from the field and .377 from 3, TS% of .559), which wouldn't be a big deal if his game was still well rounded, but his defense is aging rapidly and while his rebounding and assists are right as his career averages, he's never provided much in that regard (3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists). If he's the 5th best player on the court, it's ok.

Yep, that's pretty much where I'd place him. And arguably better as an off the bench guy/6th man (he's already not closing games). But still useful offensively especially if he accepts that reduced role, which has obviously been a problem. And his defensive decline is sad to see -- not that I'm a W's fan so really care, but he was terrific to watch back in the day.

Isn’t that the very definition of a corpse? A player who is a shell of his former self?

I think of a corpse as, I don't know, Lowry or Hayward or worse. I didn't say Klay was a shell of himself, just that he's declined. I don't think of Russ Westbrook or DeMar DeRozan as corpses. Just guys whose games have similarly declined, but can still be valuable contributors on a good team.

Fun w/ semantics!

Pistons up 7 in the 3rd over the Clippers. I assume that'll change by the end of game same as the Wiz-Celts. That said, it is nice to see that the Pistons have become more competitive....

Am I reading this box score incorrectly or does LAC have zero OReb with 10 minutes left.

Still weird to me that you’d go on the road to a playoff team - not on a back to back - and just get kicked in the teeth. It’s basically the equivalent of the Celts losing by 40 tomorrow.

And yet here we are. Everyone says in October that they'll be understanding when February is a slog, and then February rolls around.....

And the teams dogging it a bit might not even be wrong. The 2022 Celtics kept going hard from January through March: short rotations, lots of blowouts, few lapses. But they burned the candle at both ends imo, and the playoffs were a lot tougher.

If Timelord stays healthy (possibly a result of the no let up) and/or if Curry doesn't go supernova in G4 and G5, then we might look at their approach that year a lot differently. Not saying we should try it this year, just that it almost worked and a team like the NYK might pull it off this year.

Feel like Spida may be quietly creeping up on SGA in the MVP race. (Kia MVP ladder has him #9 after Sabonis, which is utterly ridiculous imo.)

Edit: obviously, Jokic is the frontrunner either way.

*G4 and G6.

G5 was the bizarre one in SF where Steph somehow went 0-9 from 3 and scored just 16 points while Wiggs (26 pts, 13 reb), Klay (21 pts, 5-11 from 3), Payton (15 pts, 5 reb, 3 steals, team-high +16) and the Team D held it down. Then G6 it was back to Supernova Steph.

Man, seems like a billion years ago now. The weird thing is, player for player, I actually kinda like the roster of this year's sadsack #11 seed Warriors more than that one. Give me this year's Kuminga, Podziemski, Saric, and CP3 all day over Otto Porter Jr, that year's Poole, and Bjelica.

Yeah semantics for sure but I think Klay has really really regressed as a player. If he can adjust to a bench role then he can contribute to a good team but his days as a #2-3 are over as far as I’m concerned.

Halliburton just threw the ball off the blackboard to himself ... so he could follow it up with a jump pass to the corner for an open siakam three. man this league is fun

You’re still a great poster!

Anybody else want to take a shot at ranking,
the poster formerly known Billy B’s, “has been” 5?

Derozan
Westbrook
Klay
Hayward
Lowry

Klay with the 5/2/1 line in 24 min on 2-10 shooting and probably getting benches for crunch time tonight against the Suns.

Hmmm. I'm pretty confident I wouldn't look at the approach differently had they won the title. They were looking worn down in the Milwaukee and Miami series, and were lucky in a lot of ways to get through those ones. We sort of forget now how close those were, because they won them.

The playoff style of basketball that was played in those series have the impression of being worn down but there was nothing wrong w the Celtics at the start of the Warriors series until Steph went Steph and their speed advantage made us look slow…..we looked slow bc we were slow at many positions.

Don't forget Wiggins playing at a level he hasn't come close to since (and may never approach again).

What’s up with the Thunder losing by 30+
Lack of mental toughness, obviously. Lack of "will to win".

And SGA might only be 25, but it's his 6th year in the league. He's been an all-star twice. At what point do we stop cutting him slack for youth, and start asking hard questions about whether he can win a title as a team's best player?

Really? I thought Steph bailed him out on that. Looks like the pass should have been thrown a second earlier? I dunno, maybe that bounce pass away was the intended play though
Agree, Okogie gambled, but he did so because he had a real shot at stealing the pass.

Sorry, you get -100 internet points for bringing Kobe into a thread in a way that could be construed as positive. I don't make the rules.
I think it's pretty relevant in the context of my saying I hadn't seen anything like it before, and then Euclis instantly showing me I was wrong.

If Podz gets that out any sooner Curry is catching with his back to the basket and Beal in great defending position. If throws that pass in the normal passing lane Beal was in great position to deflect. It was the only place for Curry to collect while taking Beal out of the play. I felt that was literally THE perfect pass. It's not surprising as Podz has been making these elite IQ plays all year which is one reason why he's playing and trusted down the stretch over Klay.
