Clark gets the record on free throws after a tacky technical on McMahon for nudging her out of her way during a dead ball. Iowa scores 6 points in the last 0.3 seconds of the half and I'd rather see Ohio State just play the bench the rest of the way and see if they meet again in the conference tournament.
Clark totally initiated the contact and McMahon just nudged her to get off her and they gave the T to McMahon.

Doesn’t take away from Clark’s superlative record but man that was a crap way to get it.

Though that in bounds play after the tech was amazing.

I can't explain either technical on Ohio State today, although they both ended runs they were making. If it was a Buckeye player who was just swinging her arms in frustration on that tie-up instead of Clark, it would be another technical.

Not a good start for Ohio State in the B1G tournament, down 38-30 to Maryland at the half. Cotie McMahon went 0-for-8 from the floor until finally making her first shot with 10 seconds left in the half.

The Buckeyes picked the wrong time to put forth their worst effort of the year. Looks like they'll have to settle for a #2 seed in the NCAA. Oh well, I'll be out all day tomorrow so at least there's no game to miss. I'm just rooting against Iowa the rest of the weekend.

Caitlyn Clark goes 15:12 into the game before she hits a shot... and yet Penn State is playing so badly and stupidly that it's been lopsided from the start. They are just barely hanging around since Iowa went over 5 minutes without a point.

Indiana was hoping to reach the B1G semifinals tomorrow without needing to use Mackenzie Holmes (knee) and it looked like a great plan in the first half, but now they've completely blown a 17-point lead over Michigan while Holmes is still on the bench. Honestly, I found the first half results more surprising... I expected Michigan to win if Holmes wasn't going to play. Laila Phelia is clearly the best player on the court. Michigan or Nebraska getting another big upset this weekend wouldn't be a shock... they're both much better teams than the higher seeded Michigan State team Nebraska already knocked off with ease.

South Carolina was a fraction of a second from losing their undefeated season before their center banked in a wide open 3 at the buzzer to win by 1, her first career three ever made.

Unbelievable sequence. Tenn up 2 with a few seconds left, one of theirs at the line for 2 shots. Misses the first. Then misses the second. SC races up the court and with 1.1 seconds left, just before she heaves up a wildly unsuccessful three point attempt, Tennessee gives a take foul. So then SC gets to inbound the ball a mile from the basket. They pass to Cardoso at the top of the key and Tennessee literally just stands there, leaving her WIDE OPEN. And she proceeds to BANK IN a three for the win. The first made three of her career.

I know she's not a shooter but you cannot just leave ANYONE completely wide open in that situation. I mean, if they make a layup at least you get to play over time. Absolutely horrific sequence from Tennessee and frankly, they deserved to lose after that. They butchered everything about that last few seconds. And still, Cardoso had to bank it in for the win.

Insane.

March Madness is incredible.

Agree with everything you said. They only need 2 to tie so you don't leave anybody open not just three point shooters.
And even more infuriating is that not only is SC the best team, now they have to get lucky too? Give me a break.

It's a legit debate when you have one FT left, up by two, with under four seconds to play whether you should make the FT or try to miss it. I always try to make it to guaranteee at least a tie but I know others who opt to miss. In any event, when you do miss whether intentionally or not, you don't foul especially near half court! Now, you give then time to run a play that they have most likely practiced and you're guaranteeing the ball gets at least to the arc. And, as BJ said, the three is the most important shot to defend in that situation.

It should be noted SC had no timeouts remaining.

EDIT: Further, in HS, there is no advancing the ball on a timeout so we always try to get the ball to HC and then call timeout to run a play. Tenn basically handed SC that option. Ugh.

I was only like 3/4 paying attention, but I was so confused initially, like maybe the refs had blown a whistle and that's why she was so wide open? It made a little more sense once I learned it was the center who never shoots threes, but still, 1.1 seconds left, guard everyone.

Tenn had their center deep in the paint protecting the rim which I get sort of if you have a one-point lead and the inbounds is in the front court. But, this was obviously very different and very confusing to how Tenn played this. I'd like to think there was miscommunication between the staff and the Tenn players but SC managed to get it right. Cardoso was very clear after the game that if Tenn left her alone up top the pass was to her. The SC coaches had to yell that to her. Tenn should've heard and known the possibility. Even if SC didn't yell it to her, it doesn't excuse the choice to protect the rim up two with an inbound over 45 feet away. The lack of reaction by the other Tenn defenders above the arc to leave their player and at least lunge at Cardoso when she caught the pass speaks volumes and not in a good way for the Tenn coaches.

Staley, the SC coach, caught a break it seems as she drew up a play down by two with 11 seconds(?) remaining for the ball being inbounded on the sideline, but the ball was being inbounded on the baseline. She spent the entire timeout going over a SLOB and when the refs were like uhh no it's a BLOB you can see Staley challenging them and then at the last second screaming to her team as they had already taken the floor and set up in a SLOB formation to run a BLOB, a very generic Box set that they run a lot and Tenn has seen a lot and was totally prepared for. So, Staley made a rookie mistake not understanding where the ball was going to be inbounded and double checking with the refs at the beginning of her timeout and was ultimately bailed out by the Cardoso miracle.

UConn suffered another injury. Aaliyah Edwards got her face smashed and left the game in a pool of blood, didn’t return. UConn managed to win but it’s doubtful whether she will play today. I hope she can put her mask back on and get through it but if she can’t go, UConn will have six players out and eight players available - two of whom are deep deep bench players. So really, six legit players available, and only one big - freshman Ice Brady, who gets in foul trouble very easily.

Entirely possible we see Bueckers at the five today. All 140 pounds of her. LOL.

Tennessee suffered a scary injury yesterday as well. A player with a head injury and had to be taken off on a stretcher. Yikes.

Are you referring to Last-Tear Poa on LSU’s Tigers?

The ending of that Tennessee/S. Carolina game sure was something! I love Staley and was psyched for them but equally bummed for Tennessee…they really should have covered the center. But damn - what a time for your first 3-pointer of the season her career!

And that hit for Poa was tough to watch…glad it sounds as if it’s just a concussion (news overnight). No one should have tried to move her, though, given how she had reacted (not blaming her teammates or anything…they don’t know…but staff should have been on that immediately). Watching the guys roll the stretcher out, I was like, ‘can you move a little faster?!’

Edit…for correction..whoah

Clark just 2-of-13 and 0-9 from three in the first half – 4 points. Nebraska's making it look easy with a 46-35 lead. If not for Affolter's 6 offensive boards, this game might be out of reach. Nebraska is going to be an interesting team to seed – currently outside the top 25, but Shelley-Markowski-Potts can play with anyone.

9-15 and 4-7 from 3 since, 28-12-7 as of now.

The ACC championship between Notre Dame and NC State is also coming down to the final seconds... although "can anyone hit a shot?" is a different level of excitement.

My daughter’s UNC-Greensboro WBB squad lost the SoCon championship game today to Chattanooga. Big bummer. :-(

Someone was at the scorers table checking in and apparently wasn’t deemed to have left the bench.
Yeah but that's still five. Four on the floor remain in the game plus Paopao... It must be that someone from the SC bench wasn't ejected.
