The teams agreed to play the game today "as is" rather than wait for it to be fixed (which it will before tomorrow night's game). Not sure how long they would have delayed the game today.

I just discovered why our hotel rates in Cleveland next Sunday night (for us to see the Eclipse Monday) are so damned expensive: The NCAA Women's champ game is Sunday April 7th, 3pm ET... in Cleveland. I thought they used to do the Women's Final Four on Sunday and the champ game on Tuesday, but whatever... either way, the NCAA stepped in it by putting one of their signature events in the exact time and place where massive hordes of people are coming to town for an entirely unrelated reason.

Sucks for my wallet, but hey, maybe I should go to the game!

The women's final got moved from Tuesday to Sunday in 2017, and then last year for the first time it was broadcast on ABC and managed 9.9 million viewers so is unlikely to go anywhere for the foreseeable future.

They scheduled the location and dates for this year's final 4 in 2018, pretty sure they weren't thinking about an eclipse happening 6 years later at the time

The paths of the celestial bodies were determined a bit before that, but fair enough.

Does seem like a mistake they could fix with, say, a mere year of advance notice. Swap 2024 and 2025 hosts, or something.

The Guardians home opener is on Monday and they're going with the unusual 5:10 PM first pitch to avoid the delay that the eclipse would have forced with an afternoon start time.

Is tonight the biggest night in the history of WBB? Two incredible match-ups with no competing men's games.

I’d think so. The women’s game has exploded over the last 5 years and it’s great to see. I didn’t get to teach Texas this weekend but NC State must’ve played so well.

I'll be watching Iowa LSU live, and Celtics Hornets on VOD if at all, that's for sure.

I think UConn probably hits the end of the road pretty hard tonight. Can't ever count out a team with Bueckers, but their injuries are just too much, and Watkins is one of like 5 players in the division who can guard her. I may watch if it's close, but I don't think it will be (and yes, I realize it's UConn -3.5 right now), and first pitch for the Sox is right around tipoff anyway.

I'm a UCONN fan but I agree this could be ugly for them tonight. However I don't think Juju will guard Paige much. They won't want to chance her getting into foul trouble and vice versa.

Is it ok to admit that I'm kind of rooting for LSU? I want to see Angel Reese get a technical for taunting Caitlin Clark after she misses her fourth three in a row. I want shoving and trash talk and maybe even a bloody lip or two.

If Edwards gets into foul trouble then UConn is likely dead. So that’s key. But I think they can find a way to slow Watkins down and despite no depth I think they have enough ways to score to best USC. But I wouldn’t be surprised at all if USC won.

The Iowa-LSU tilt should be awesome.

Agree that this is a great night for women’s college BB.

My feeling was when Aubrey Griffin went down that was the last straw of injuries that would keep us from the final four. Paige is great but that made the available useful players so low that IMO it's a bridge too far now. Hoping for the best of course but thinking we're probably at the end of the road. Watching USC a number of times this year they are pretty darn good. Back in the day of beautiful "less contact" basketball you could do it but now that we have the "roller derby" style of physical play it's almost impossible to have any gas left in the tank to play an entire game. Let alone stay out of foul trouble. Heck you don't even have to committ real fouls, since the game is now too fast for the refs. Ask Edwards about that from her experience in the last game.

As an aside, Paige was exhausted at the end the last game because unlike Clark she actually applies a LOT of energy to her defensive game.

It will be quite a game…kind of wish it was the finals, but I am also hoping we’re seeing S. Carolina in that.

Regarding the “villains” label for LSU…while the players are certainly embracing it, the LA Times took it too far in a recent opinion piece. Here’s an excerpt from the original piece:

Criticized by many as racist and sexist, the LA Times has since edited the piece, explaining it didn’t meet their standards. Shame on them for letting it out in the first place. Here’s one article covering the reaction and ultimate revision -Article
Seriously vile, I had to look up "Dirty Debutantes" too and it's disgusting this reporter used that to describe the women who play for LSU, it's like Don Imus all over again. I don't blame Mulkey for losing her shit about it, I'd like to see Iowa advance but almost want to see LSU win and completely drag this clown.

I'd never root for LSU/Kim Mulkey against anyone, but either my least favorite or second-least favorite team has to lose, so at least there's that.

I like characters and this game has it all. Why they play this shit in Albany though? That’s ridiculous.

At 6 min Iowa has what UConn had in the whole 1st half the other night…and most are from Clark.

Mulkey should be the antagonist for an HBO drama. She's an incredible villain and matches that energy with her antics.

I like her and Angel. LSU v Clark has to be the greatest thing to happen to a sport since Magic/Bird. Griffin/Bonnar fight was huge for UFC but this might be bigger than that.

Feels like Iowa really needs to make a lot of threes because they can't get anything inside out of the half court with the size and athleticism disparity.

I’ll confess, my niece attends LSU and so I am rooting for them.

I have huge respect for Clark and her team…but shit like that LA Times article really, really digs at me.

LSU beating them at Iowa's pace now. When they decide to make this a post game and start pounding Steulke it might get out of reach.
