Bulls having a Players only meeting after game 1…. Doesn’t sound great!
Billy Donovan says when he walked into the Bulls locker room tonight, players were already in heated conversations.

He asked if they wanted him to leave to handle conflict. Players said yes, so he did.

Donovan emphasized that embracing conflict is key for this year’s roster.

Just turned on Spurs-Mavs to see Wemby get called for 3 fouls in about 2 minutes, and comes off.

Somewhere Adam Silver is pouring himself a glass of something strong to steady himself.

I'm sure Grant is thrilled with his contract (and the nice facilities), but the Mavs must be one of the worst teams to play on from a pure basketball perspective.

Lots of chucking, iso-Luka ball and halfhearted defense.
The recipe for an effective iso-team is to have players on the floor capable of locking down defensively as they won't be exerting as much on the offensive end. That was the Sixers recipe with Iverson when they surround him with Snow, McKie, Ratliff, George Lynch, etc. Maybe that's what they are tying to do with the Grant move, Derrick Jones and Exum.....but they are a work in progress in this regard.

Defensive Three Seconds called on Lively! Tony Brothers doing Tony Brothers things.

SA announcers are saying it's a point of emphasis with the refs. That's one that for sure they're going to stop calling in a few weeks.

The techs for flopping, I hope they keep that.

Devin Vasell is really smooth - he looks poised for a big leap this season. Spurs games have been added to my list this year for sure.
They have some interesting other pieces aside from him and Victor. Johnson, Sochan and Jones are all kinda nice.

These Spurs will likely give teams a good game Wemby or not.

Edit: Grant is having a very Grant game tonight.

They won 40 games last year with all of their best players basically healthy and right in the middle of their primes. It's baffling they basically just ran it back, what are they hoping for exactly? Lonzo Ball recovering and somehow rediscovering their magic from late 2021?
They made their big bet on LaVine, even have him a 15% trade kicker. He’s not going anywhere.

DeMar is in his last year. Sounds like they’ve had general talks on an extension, but both sides are also open to trades (in season or off season S&T).

DeMar makes $28.6m, so just opening up that salary a lot doesn’t do a ton. But they have a range of salaries to try to put together a deal: Ball, Vuc, Caruso, Ayo, Carter.

And this is the make or break year for Patrick Williams. If he can take a big step forward - IF - then the outlook looks a lot brighter.

So yeah, they ran it back. But you could also see it as keeping their powered dry for a major overhaul this coming summer.

I wasn't sure he'd even come back into the game, good to see him salvage things no matter what happens in the last few minutes.

Grant is gonna eat in Dallas. 17/6 in 31 minutes.

Grant is going to have open corner 3's all season long with Doncic and Kyrie breaking down defenses.

Is this going to result in a Wemby game winner at the buzzer?
Not with Kyrie on the floor. He's not letting that happen tonight.

Edit: Or Doncic. If the two of them can coexist and they find a way to add some veteran wings/bigs this team could be dangerous. A lot of ifs but you can see the vision of having these two in the backcourt together.

That was some insanely trash offense down the stretch though. It will be a fun year, but they are gonna lose a lot.
I thought they got good looks - Dallas actually played some defense down the stretch. But that Johnson dribble into the teeth of the D ended predictably.

Methinks Pop will emphasize that clip in their film session but maybe he is chill with that possession.

I watched a bit of the 4th Q of the Memphis game and old friend Marcus Smart was relegated to being a statue at the three-point line as they were trying to mount a comeback. I'd imagine there's going to be a rough transition period for him. 6/11 FG 3/6 3P so not a bad night efficiency-wise.

Remember those stories in preseason where it looked like Ben Simmons was going to aggressively attack the rim and score like in his Philly days? Yeah, he was 2-6 for 4 points in a 1 point loss to Cleveland. I find it comforting that some things will never change.

And meanwhile, Brooklyn is starting him and Dinwiddie over Cam Thomas, who went for 36 on 25 minutes last night, and last year, lit it up for games on end when they gave him minutes. When they went away from him last year, I assumed it was for tanking purposes, no idea what the reason would be now. But I suppose when you have a 30 year old Dinwiddie, who shot 40/28/79 last year, you gotta roll with him, next to even worse scorer in Simmons.

To their credit, Simmons was on the bench in the closing minutes. I love everything about this situation.

This game is very entertaining. I think I'm rooting Sixers, too, but Giannis just spun baseline out of a triple-team and dunked and he's pretty awesome to watch sometimes.
It took him less than 5 minutes to take a 3 with 17 seconds or so on the shot clock (bad brick). I hope he never changes.

Damn that block by Giannis on Maxey. Maxey was going at full speed. I thought there is no chance anyone blocks that.
