And then wins it with Dobson passing it to Panarin in the slot. The only debate was whether it should count since Dobson slid behind Sorokin and knocked the net off as the puck trickled across the line.

Sooooooooo, the Wild hung 5 on the Canucks in the first 5:12 of the third. DeSmith was 16/24 at last check.
Three hat tricks in the game. Plus a ton of 5 on 3 power plays in the third. Considering how hard it was for the bruins to get 5-4 calls this screams the refs sending a signal for the complaints from the canucks Coach.

Ha, love the guy who comes in right at the end and is like, "The puck's over there, bro" after giving a bit of a cross check.

OK that was fantastic. I think that poor guy on the ice is Bains? I presume he was trying to snooker the Avs. I haven't been able to find any more coverage.

Good scrap in the Flyers/Rangers game between Matt Rempe and Nick Deslauriers.

This Rempe guy for the Rangers is a throwback goon. He’s up to 27 PIM in under 10 minutes of total ice time across 3+ games.

It doesn’t hurt that he lined up for his first shift in the NHL opposite Matt Martin. The kid clearly understands Laviolette’s assignment.

One of those stats that you hear and then just blink for a while and think "Really?"

Leafs beat Arizona in Toronto tonight. First time in 21 years they have won in Toronto vs Arizona in regulation.

Funny moment in the Leafs - Canadiens game to start the 3rd. There was a scrum at the end of the second, Leafs got assessed one minor, Habs 2. So Leafs started on the PP at the start of the 3rd and sent out their top PP unit. Just before the puck was dropped, the Habs started complaining, and rightly so. They had 2 players in the box, Leafs had none. Tavares was lined up for the faceoff. He's the Leaf who got the penalty in the scrum.

Was a nice try I guess...

I was kind of suprised that the players didn't know. It's rare, but it does happen from time to time. The most common use cas is a team chasing a playoff spot that does it in the last week of the regular season because they need an ROW for tiebreaker purposes and a shootout win doesn't do them any good. I think I read that Hynes did it in New Jersey, albeit not as far out from the end of the year as this. Kudos to him.

Last game of the 69-70 season, NYR played without a goalie for long stretches, as they needed goals as a tie breaker. They beat Detroit 9-5. It was MTL's first missed-playoffs in forever. I *think* that was the 1st time I had seen a Ranger game on TV being played at MSG. (The below story has the goalie pulled only late. My memory has it longer and more often. I'm sticking with 50 year old memories. ;)

That's a great story. And thank God the Rags pulled that off because given the Bruins history they probably would have lost to the Habs in some stupid fashion.

That was a pretty good Ranger team and they did the Bruins a big favor by eliminating Montreal.

10 games into the Rempe experience and he's got his first suspension, a 4-gamer for elbowing Siegenthaler in the head.

1g, 1a and 54 PIM's. Averaging 5:39 TOI per game.

I don't know as much NHL history as you guys do, although I'm competent. I was looking how many players have ever been suspended for life. Because I'm worried Rempe will join the club.

Ah never mind I looked it up.

Suspended for Life

After losing the Stanley Cup Final to the Ottawa Senators in 1927, Billy Coutu (captain of the Boston Bruins) assaulted two referees and started a brawl so severe that he was hit with a life ban from the NHL. Alhough the ban was ultimately lifted several years later, Coutu never played with the NHL again.

Rempe is such a throwback to an era the league has tried to bury, but as one random comment or said on some bit of social media about him, “Bro is speedrunning CTE”. I’m not concerned Rempe is a return to the 70s, I’m worried he’ll find a place with people like Boogaard, Belak, and Rypien.

Is the game misconduct for secondary fights a new thing? I don’t recall hearing about this rule before seeing this tonight

Maybe the Rangers who didn't get left to have to cover the minutes for the entire line will be exhausted and the team will go on a run of bad games and get the Bruins the 1 seed in the East. That would be nice.

Is Rempe being involved the least surprising thing in the history of competitive sports?

Took me a minute...I found the rule as early as 2012. However, I'm almost certain it predates that.

46.7 Fighting After the Original Altercation - A game misconduct penalty shall be imposed on any player who is assessed a major penalty for fighting after the original altercation has started. Notwithstanding this rule, at the discretion of the Referee, the automatic game misconduct penalty may be waived for a player in the altercation if the opposing player was clearly the instigator of the altercation.

They hate each other, sure....pick a guy from each side to drop em when the puck drops. What's the point of all 5 dropping and skating around looking for a dance partner and then somewhat half-heartedly fighting? Only a couple of them were actually fighting, and having to deal with everyone left that one pair alone and let the guy wail on the other one much more than refs would normally allow.

Fighting is part of the game, that was dumb.

Yeah, this is what I should have specified. The Devils had very fair grievances against Rempe and Trouba. The rest was unnecessary and looks bad for the sport at large.

I think Carolina was quietly content taking a loss to the Bruins last night.
It somewhat secures them 2nd place in the Metro - meaning they would almost certainly play one of PHI, NYI, PIT, WAS in the first round.

Assuming the Rangers finish 1st, they have the same opponents in the mix but with the possibility of facing Detroit or Tampa Bay also.
2nd in the Metro might be the most coveted playoff position league wide.

Flyers crash and burn is continuing tonight, down 3-1 after 2 in Buffalo.

Rangers and Wings are tied. Caps up 2-1 in Carolina.

Pittsburgh up 2-0 on Tampa in the second. If that holds up they’ll move into a playoff spot, at least until tonight. Wild.

Haven’t seen a replay yet, but ref Steve Kozari is getting stretchered off the ice. It was a behind the play collision.

Edit: ref & player knocked heads at center ice. Neither guy saw each other. Kozari’s head snapped back when he hit the ice. Brief loss of consciousness, but moving his arms and legs.

Player is Haydn Fleury who left immediately and is out for the rest of the game with a head injury.
