Getting late for the Rays. Kind of need to make something happen right now.

We all know how mentally tough Nate is, but when the wheels come off they come off quick and he didn't exactly dominate September.

Catchers Interference AGAIN? I swear it was never a big thing before this year.

That rule has to go. The catcher has to be where he is -- he has a box he has to be in. Any batter with long arms can tip his glove. What is he supposed to do? Just call it part of the game.

A fucking check swing where the bat hits the glove after the ball is already in it is first base? Other than "the rule is the rule," there is just no need.

Edit: And Nate gives zero fucks.

The batter's got a box he has to be in too. They're both reaching out of it when contact is made.

Feels like most catcher's interference calls involve the catcher reaching forward to catch a ball he could have caught closer to his body. It's like the trend is for the catcher to try to go snag the ball before it drops below or out of the zone enough to fool the umpire.

Yeah it's a framing thing. Robot umps will eliminate the issue.

I guess if you didn't have the rule catchers could do nasty shit -- still, it seems to me as though most of the times it happens in this latest rash of calls it's completely innocuous.

It seems like there should at least be "interference." The one that just happened didn't interfere with anything. The ball was already in the glove, and the batter didn't even offer. Seems like you should at least have to swing to get interference -- if the glove keeps you from going around, ok, but getting catchers interference on a check swing seems pretty lame.

Blow out.

Given the more balanced schedule, the fact that a team that is so far ahead of the rest of the league for second place has to play a play-in series can be unfair. But the Rays sure don't get to make that argument after a performance like this. At home.

TB were only shut out 7 times in 162 games before yesterday.

This is the same old shit from the Rays, just when it looked like they did have enough talent on offense

Texas offense was a bit rough yesterday but they look dynamic with rookies Jung and Carter hitting.

I'm still open to what team to root for in the playoffs, but seeing Nate do his thing is making me like Texas

One more inning for Eovaldi and then save him?
Maybe given that he was hurt. But he's already thrown enough that you're not going to let him pitch game 1 on Saturday (and wouldn't anyway), so I'd just let him get his 90-100 pitches in if he's cruising. Why fuck with it?

I was gonna blame Pedobear, but the Rays record was decent in August and September.

Dbacks for me. They are fun as hell to watch. They are kind of like the anti-Red Sox. The things that the Red Sox are good at, the Dbacks don't have so much of. But they save runs with their gloves, and they run on everything. They are just a lot of fun to watch.

Hazen just got an extension? Good for him. I guess he won't be coming back to Boston.

That's not a hit. Come on. I mean, not an easy play, but it hit him right in the fucking glove.

Seems like it was months ago that they started the season what 14-0?? Tragic.

That's a pretty good appearance by Nate. He has been awful coming off the injured list. The Rays made it somewhat easy on him -- once he figured out they weren't interested in working counts and planned to swing at pretty much every pitch, he used it against them. But that's easier said than done -- that was a great road performance. Should have been out of the inning without the run, too.

Rays had a much better approach all of the sudden -- probably much too late.

I don’t want to hear anyone ever talk about why the Red Sox can’t copy the Rays model of “success” again.
