I think he’s a decent QB but also agree you can’t really win with him. You’d need everything to go right and paying him 40 bones a year makes it a lot harder for “every thinking to go right”…not as much room to sign talent around him.
200 yards / game even when he was “good”. I think Daboll did a masterful job protecting him from himself but I don’t really see how he levels up. Like, I think I’d rather have Mac.

I probably rank Jones somewhat higher than you but it’s still not good enough and we reach the same bottom conclusion. I agree he’s been protected a lot. He is a very good runner which is pretty valuable but it’s not next-level like a Lamar Jackson or even a Josh Allen…so there are fast defenses like Dallas than can cause him major problems whereas some of those other guys can overcome that. Allen is a way better passer and Jackson is simply faster/quicker.

He’s the type of QB you could maybe try and consistently compete with if you had him for low money and could invest elsewhere but paying him a huge contract is crazy. Agreed on that. The Giants also didn’t have a ton of talent around him to begin with outside of Saquon who had a lot of injury problems until last year. So investing in Jones made even less sense.

This “heartwarming” tale of Pollard playing tackle football at 4 years old is insane. Having a 4 year old play older kids in tackle football is child abuse. What a world.

The Giants can move on from Jones after next season with a manageable ($22m) cap hit. It’s a crappy contract, but it was probably their least bad option.

At what point do they call off the dogs. good grief Dallas is up 33 and had times with no backs and 5 WR on that drive?

And both teams still have the starters in the game up til now

And I know it is only like 45 people dressed on game days, so, can't really put 3rd teamers in

I understand the frustration with Pats not getting over the hump yet etc...

... THIS is a night to forget and worthy of scorn.

Agreed they arent necessarily screwed for the rest of the decade. It still kind of sucks though that we’re now talking 2026 where you can maybe manage a 22M cap hit for the luxury of not having him on the roster. Realistically though you’re prob talking 2027 before you can really build enough talent around a new guy.

But who knows, maybe Jones takes a step forward at some point, though im skeptical.

The alternative was probably to bring in someone like Jacoby Brissett, sign a couple complementary players with the money you didn’t give Jones, and try to build on last year’s success, while setting yourself up to trade for whatever above-average QB becomes available after next offseason. That alternative looks pretty good right now. But if you think there’s a even a slim chance that Jones can be a top-10 guy, they were probably right to do what they did.

I don't think Daniel Jones is that good, but he's not even close to the problem for NYG. They have a horrific offensively line.

Agreed. But how on earth is in this game down 40 in a rain storm to get crushed play after play?

Is there some injury insurance clause in his contract the Giants are hoping to cash in on?

I was just asking the same thing, do they want him to get injured?

My general thought is that Daboll is like many good OC's and playcallers, actually a shitty head coach

Watching some highlights here and Fields looked like shit, huh. I think time is running out quickly on the hopes of him ever figuring out as a passer.
Wilson benched and completely ineffective.
Lance never saw light of day and is 3rd string in Dallas now after a trade
Fields is still struggling
Mac has been mediocre

That incredible QB draft seems to have only 1 actual QB in it.

Just a follow up on the formations and false starts and stuff that everyone seems so invested in. You can see how much the NFL cares about that stuff when you see their 6-man mechanics. In Washington, an official got hurt. So where did the NFL pull coverage from? The line of scrimmage. They would rather have literally nobody there to even look for line of scrimmage fouls it than potentially miss a DH.

Just a note for NCAA, 6 man mechanics we pull the back judge, since there are two other deep guys anyways. Just means one of the deep guys will have to keep their eyes on two receivers instead of one.

Imagine if Carr has a second half of his career like Brees.
Brees had a very good career at San Diego but after a very big injury the Chargers opted to move on to Phillip Rivers. He then signed with the Dolphins, who saw something they didn not like somewhere and didn't go throiugh with it so he then went to NO.
I don't really think Carr's is the same path.

Absolutely. And it was precisely in this draft class that the Niners traded a treasure trove to move to # 3.

home?

They don;t even play in their own state.

/coming from a fan of a team with 5.5 home states lol
Well, too many teams play their games far away from their "base" or city. I think Santa Ckara is farther away from San Francisco than Metlife is to New York. There is an 80% probablilty I am wrong though.

I get the geographic nitpick, and it's a long time rib, but MetLife Stadium is 9 miles from Central Park. It's all the New York metro area.

It isn't like the Angels renaming themselves to "Los Angeles" when they play 35 miles from LA.

And hey, the Pats tried to call themselves the Bay State Patriots, but the league nixed it.

The funny thing is that nobody has ever pointed out that the New York Jets and Giants actually play in NJ. I'm surprised I hadn't heard that until today.

Starting to get nervous now. Luckily have a few things to keep me busy until kickoff.

Im ready for anything on the downside. My own death during the game, meteor or nuclear strike among other things; it’s all on the table. If 8 doesn’t tear his achilles or worse, this will be better than game 1 of the 99 season.

Wow.

A true existential crisis. Take it one game at a time, friend.

Get ready to be a fucking wreck before games all year if the Jets live up to expectations. But hey, much better than the alternative!

Not sure who to root for here. The Jets have serious implosion potential which could be amusing but I’m also getting a little tired of the Bills.

Jets were getting dangerously unhateable until bringing Rodgers in, now all feels right in the world. Bills will be tolerable until they win one, imo. But I say that with Buffalonian inlaws and Josh Allen on my fantasy team.
