With April 1st (Jrue Holiday extension eligible) coming up and some interesting conversation on Jaden Springer's future, maybe we can talk about next year roster. I know decisions will be made based on the results this year.

The big decision is White, and I don't know that they can even get him to extend at the max number he's eligible for.

I would predict that Brad will be very aggressive, but he doesn't have many ways to do it this summer. Jrue won't be tradeable, and they probably wouldn't want to trade him if he extends. Jaylen was the obvious candidate to be part of a blockbuster, but he's playing himself out of that--he's getting too good to be tradeable.

Hauser will get extended at a reasonable number, because he'll want to lock in money given how paltry his earnings to date are.

I imagine the 1sts and 2nds will be turned into a lot of 2nds, since Brad likes those as deadline deal sweeteners, and there simply isn't any roster room to develop a 1st rounder.

If Jrue stays, the team will be past the second apron which means they cannot aggregate salary going out.and they can only trade with 110% of the salary.

I'm very aware of the 2nd apron rules. How is that relevant to the quoted?

Usually I'm a cheapskate and worry about salary/budgets/tax payouts (ie I'm totally fine with the Sox not chasing big money FAs this winter). That all goes out the window when you are favored to win a Championship.

Their 2 best players are 26 & 27 and about to be locked up for 4/5 seasons. If Wyc/Steve need $$$ they can sell a stake to a corporate partner, while still retaining operational control (see Cuban/Sands).

This team will go down as one of the greatest NBA teams ever if they win the Championship.

Cs have Springer at $4M this coming year, which would have made both those deals possible.

If Al slips, they also have him at $10M. They'll likely also have both Tillman and Kornet at some mildly useful number.

Yea Brad's trade machine will be slowed with the new CBA/2nd apron rules. He got a ton done after the new deal was put in place 9 months ago.

If ownership decides to not pay major taxes (not expecting that), then they look for a massive package for Jaylen Brown.

Other than that they try to develop prospects at the G-League level (JDD is out) & upgrade #11-14 (Svi, Springer, Brissett, minimum players)

I kind of thought the same last year. I’m glad PBS had a different plan.

This year is much different though. The makeup of the team is much improved vs last year and financial constraints limit what the team can do outside of a major shake up like trading JB which I hope PBS avoids. I hope the Celtics roster make up for next year is largely the same as this year. The team is a wagon and regardless of whether they win a championship this year, if they stay healthy they have a good chance of being in the finals next year.

If they just can't get by Denver or OKC, that calls some of their team-building theories into question, and they have enough player+draft capital ammo to substantially reshape the team, if needed.

I guess where I am coming from is this year’s roster gives the team an excellent chance at competing for a title which is about the best a GM can do. It's a tough one. If it's a great series and Denver just plays at an incredible level, then I think you run it back and just take another shot. If it seems they come up short and don't play up to their regular season greatness, then you take some hard looks.

I think the only real way would involve turning Jaylen into someone who could create a more dynamic two-man game with Tatum. I have zero clue who that guy would be, but that's the rough direction.

Also, the finals are a long way away still, so I'm not going to de-crown the Celtics' asses just yet.

Anything can happen in a 7 game series, of course, but I have a really hard time seeing a scenario where some glaring weakness of the Celtics is exposed that can be fixed. Would it be nice to have even more good players? Of course! But, the Celtics live in a league with a salary cap and lots of rules in place to get to competitive balance. The Celtics have a fantastic defense and a fantastic offense that is spread across many players. Thankfully, POBOS doesn't seem like the type to over-react to not winning a championship.
