I was surprised as well, but it allowed me to trade down a lot I went 3>5+, 5>7+ and then 7>12+.

Speaking of falling, Brock Bowers at 21 would be something. Makes up for the fact I didn't get enough from AZ to drop from 4 to 21. Also only did 4 rds since I'm purely guessing after rd 3 anyways.

  • 21
    Brock Bowers
    TE Georgia
  • 34.
    Laiatu Latu
    EDGE UCLA
  • 41.
    Jayden Daniels
    QB LSU
  • 66.
    Ja'Lynn Polk
    WR Washington
  • 67.
    Raheim Sanders
    RB Arkansas
  • 99.
    James Williams
    S Miami (FL)
  • 2025 CHI 3rd
  • 2025 TB 3rd

I just did one where I made a few trades, and here's what I ended up with:

74535

Yes, I double-dipped on the three biggest areas of need: QB, OT, and WR. I'd pick up Maye and Travis and let them battle it out, assuming Maye wins it, but that Travis could be a good competitor. Then you sign a veteran backup to mentor them and put some experience in the QB room. You add two good WRs and OTs, and close the draft out getting a little bit of defensive help.

You do know Jordan Travis suffered a significant leg injury a couple weeks ago right? He just had "successful" surgery but they haven't even said what it was. I'm not linking any clips to the injury because it is the type of stuff you usually see in MMA not on the football field. I'll be rooting for him to make it in the NFL but will be shocked if he is drafted in the first 5 rds. He was probably a 3rd-4th rd prospect before the injury.

I'd be super happy with either of those drafts @Average Game James @BaseballJones.

The next starting QB, two tackles, at least one legit WR, preferably an X. Every simulation that I do has those components.
I agree completely, nice work @Average Game James and @BaseballJones. (Even though admittedly I know little about college football)

Much like the 49ers, I’m hoping the Patriots take multiple shots at finding The Guy (TM).

Draft Maye or Williams in the 1st. Draft someone else on Day 3. Sign a veteran caretaker (Jameis? Tannehill?). Keep developing Cunningham.

After that, OL, WR, and RB are my priorities in that order.

Here's my first mock, trading back from 3 to 15 to take Daniels (who is no longer going in the 2nd round in these mocks), while adding additional draft capital, including a 2nd from Cincy next year in the trade back.

QB, 2 OT, WR with my first 4 picks.

Edit: And holy smokes, I just did a PFF draft (no trades) and well, I'd be pretty damn happy with this result 74546

I'd love to be able to trade down from #2-3 and still wind up with a premier WR and Jayden Daniels... but end of the day I can't believe there won't be at least 4 QBs (I'd guess Williams-Maye-Daniels-Pennix) in the first round, and I'd even bet they're in the Top 20. Too many teams need QBs to feel confident of landing even Bo Nix at #2-36.

McCarthy (and probably Nix) doesn't grab my imagination enough to take MHJ at #1-3. I feel like you need to get one of the top 3, maybe top 4, QBs period end of sentence.

Lol,

I was trying to experiment with what it looks like to trade down figuring no QB and instead a OT.... but nobody took QBs so I ended up with a truly ridiculous draft:

#6- Caleb Williams QB
#35-Xavier Legette WR | South Carolina
#38- Kingsley Suamataia OT BYU
#39- Jordan Morgan OT | Arizona
#71- Caelen Carson CB | Wake Forest
#100- Brandon Dorlus DL | Oregon
#103- Sedrick Van Pran IOL | Georgia
#138- MarShawn Lloyd RB | USC
#140- Ben Sinnott TE | Kansas State
#180- Jermaine Burton WR | Alabama
#223- Omar Speights LB | LSU

Dang it. Doesn’t show all the draft picks I accumulated, like seven 2nd round picks for next years.

PFF released their latest mock draft this morning. They have the Patriots taking Drake Maye at #2 overall:

"The Patriots are completely lost on offense, with no identity and no quarterback to build around. Maye has established himself as one of the top gunslingers in college football over the past two years. He made 38 big-time throws for an 8.7% big-time throw rate last season and has 32 such throws this year at a 7.5% clip. In both seasons, he recorded a sub-2.0% turnover-worthy play rate. Maye brings pro-level ability as a passer in all situations."

Other notable picks:
#1: Caleb Williams (CAR -> CHI)
#3: MHJ (ARI)
#4: Olu Fashanu (WAS)
#9: Jayden Daniels (NO)
#21: Bo Nix (MIN)

- PFF seems unusually high on Bo Nix. I don't think I've seen him mocked as a first rounder by other publications.

- PFF also joins The Athletic's Dane Brugler in mocking Daniels in the top 10 in recent days. Massive rise over the past couple months.

Man, just did a PFN one:

#2-Drake Maye, QB
#34-Brock Bowers, TE (!!!!!!!)
#69-Troy Franklin, WR

And due to one tradeback I had 11 overall picks. But if the Pats land those 3, I don't even care about the rest. But Bowers dropping to round 2 is NEVER happening. He goes top 6 in most PFN drafts I do.

PFF's rankings tend to lean heavily on data, and so Nix throwing for a million yards on 65% YAC scores high. He'll probably start dropping in the mocks as they turn more from their rankings to what they think will happen.

Where can you find the college YAC numbers you reference? Gracias.

Sadly, as far as I can tell there isn't a publicly available source, in part because NCAA doesn't track it. The Nix numbers came from SIS via a tweet (I'll look to see if I can find it).
Here is someone from ESPN nextgen stats talking about the same as part of a Heisman discussion with a chart. I think that's from before the WAS game, but around the same 62% YAC.

I traded up one spot with Ten to get him at 199.
Same. I don’t follow college football, so this was a mock informed by 15 seconds of research for each player. Seems sufficient…

Too offensive heavy for a real draft, but I was just sort of curious who I could get if I traded down a few spots. Jayden was still available at #7, and I got 2 new Tackles, 2 new WRs, and tried to find a new James White type. This was fun.

Finished that draft. Made some trades back. Here's my result:

75673

Keep Zappe and the two rookie QBs. Assume Maye is the best of the bunch but let them compete. Good WR pickups. Also got some defensive help. Only one OT though. Took a couple of fliers on late-round RBs in hopes that one of them is good.

I would take that draft to a nice dinner of Thai food in the South End, followed by some sweet jazz at Wally's and an intense, rooftop lovemaking session.

    Michael Penix Jr.
    QB Washington
  • 68.
