If they were to play Monday, it will make today look fast and dry by comparison.

Can they play on Monday?
It's actually required to play Monday if at all possible, but it has to be able to complete on Monday. If the course is unplayable, round 4 will be cancelled but everything possible will be done to get all 72 holes in.

LIV it is!
Watched my first five minutes of LIV action ever. Turned it off as soon as I realized that the player being referred to as “Wah-ki” was Joaquin Niemann. (Though I did appreciate the vigorous discussion of the merits of rooting for “The Rippers” and “Torque.”)

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a group of announcers trying to fake authenticity so hard.

I put it on. Way too much overlay stuff on screen all the time. Way to much move in the overlay stuff. The course isn't particularly interesting (I guess it's a resort somewhere). The team stuff is negative value. Really, the Saudis can go fuck themselves for screwing up professional golf.

Edit: is there a clock? LIV will win me over if their rules enforcement for slow play is someone taking a 7-iron to the player's knees.

I’ve really liked the coverage- surprised it’s so negative here. Yesterday I agreed with the too many graphics crowd- but after adjusting to it I am quite enjoying it today. Been an interesting round. The team aspect adds a bit to me, since shots matter for guys not in the lead. Think this was a good day for LIV with the PGA getting rained out.

I don’t think so.
Wast Management is not a signature event this year and the Genesis next week is so they probably just decided to rest up a bit and be ready for the bigger event at Riviera.
You're likely right, but every big name withdrawal is going to raise eyebrows for a while. I guess I wonder why they committed to this event in the first place. They knew this wasn't a signature event last Friday.

I suppose they see there’s going to be crappy weather starting tomorrow through Saturday and decided to work on their game elsewhere.

Sounds like Hovland is just getting some practice in. His last 3 events have been meh (T10 at Hero, T22 Sentry, T58 Pebble) all with short fields. I guess he prefers practice to playing through it.

Then there were travel issues getting out of Pebble and some guys just decided screw it and get ready for Riv. This is probably the bucket Xander falls into.

The late wave of the first round is still on the front 9. Frost delayed re-start this morning. Rain in the forecast tomorrow. Finishing on Sunday prior to kickoff is getting more and more unlikely.

Can't do anything about the weather, but it sucks. Best PGA Tour event of the season.

Nick Taylor shoots a 60, currently leads by 5.

Wyndham shot 60 last week at Pebble. Niemann shot 59 in Mexico for LIV. 57 on the KFT yesterday, 59 on the KFT today, 60 from Taylor today.

[Cynic alert] Course set ups leading to carnival scores good for PR and to keep players around?

Don't think so. Both rounds were outliers, Clark was 3 shots better than the 2nd best round that day; Taylor 5 shots better. Both courses are on the shorter side and got rained prior to and during the tournament so they were playing soft. Short courses, preferred lies, soft greens is a recipe for a low one. Scottsdale gives them up from time to time. Phil left a 59 in the jaws there at one point, Spieth's "he's back" round was a 61 around TPC Scottsdale. I think they said Taylor's round was the 4th 60 in tournament history.

I don't think the KFT has a ton of control over course set up. That course just seems to be easy for the pro's. Even with the 57 yesterday there were a bunch of 61 and 62's so it certainly seemed like another sub 60 round was possible.

Can’t speak to the LIV event, but the other scores were on wet course with “preferred lies.” When pros get their hands on the ball, the scores go way down.

Don’t get me wrong, those scores are insanely good. But it’s not like doing it with a regular tournament setup.

You know what LIV has going for it right now? It's actually on broadcast TV. Unlike the PGA Tour which is only on Peacock and ESPN+. So want to guess which one is on my TV right now?

As an aside, I'm seeing Premier League games on many channels lately (NBC right now). It's like someone out there thinks there's an opportunity to gain eyeballs by, you know, actually putting the sports out there on channels most people have so people can actually watch them.

PGA Tour is on Golf Channel and has been for the last hour+.
