That was one of those balls that seemed like it was crushed, fools everyone, and is not crushed at all.

Except this one went out of the park!

Casas, Devers, Yoshida, Story, O'Neill. Duran was a bit of a question mark, but he's shown he stuck. Grissom seems like a solid prospect bat as well.

What you're seeing is injury and underperformance/cold starts. Valdez, Yoshida, and Abreu in particular.

And it's resulted in them being a notch below average in terms of their offensive production. They could easily be better.

Or to put it another way, it's not like these guys are maxing out and getting beat.
Story is gone, O'Neill isn't in the lineup and Yoshida hasn't been an MLB caliber bat since about June of '23.

I just don't know why anyone expected anything different than this.

Beede is a Worcester native and was one of the names linked to the Red Sox with the 19th pick in the 2011 draft. Sox ultimately went with Matt Barnes instead (Beede went 21st to Blue Jays).

You said the lineup was weak as constructed. It wasn't.

People expected different than this because this isn't the lineup they opened the season with.

As to the team today - the supporting guys don't have to be stars to compete, they have to be adequate. And they have the ability to be.

As I said nearly a week ago - you cannot stop Connor Wong you can only hope to contain.
There fools just never learn.
