4/19: Alexander vs. Schmidt

NY returns home for their second homestand of the season, 3 with TB followed by 4 with the suddenly playing well A's (7-4 in their last 11).

They start off with their first series of the year against TB, against lefty Tyler Alexander. Like some of the other NY SPs, Schmidt has had trouble throwing strikes and thus going deep into games, 5.1 is his longest outing so far.

Also Ben Rortvedt is TB's part-time catcher now and I'm expecting multiple HRs from him this weekend.

That went well if you're a Yankee fan. Soto is even more predatory in terms of jumping on certain pitches than I anticipated. You just know of him as a guy that controls the strike zone so you assume he's more passively dominant... but with him it translates more to vicious swings when he's got the pitcher in his spot

He has the bat-to-ball skills of Cano but with Giambi's eye, which is fun

Also good job by Cash bringing in the infield on Volpe who was 0 for his last 13 and needed the easier target.

The RF stands are just chanting “MVP! MVP!” at Soto in the field in the 8th until he acknowledges them.
