They hired Bloom to implement a player development pipeline to provide sustainable cost controlled young talent.

Firing him before any players from his first draft could reasonably be expected to contribute at the major league level would be extremely short sighted.
what if they are pleased with job he’s done building the young nucleus but aren’t convinced he’s the right guy to execute phase 2, which is to create a championship-caliber mlb roster?

How many times have they finished in last place? Or been irrelevant on September 1st? A team’s success isn’t only a binary of whether they win a title or not.
The last place thing is so stupid. They have consistently traded guys away when they don’t have the horses to get into the playoffs. If they aren’t going to make the postseason I prefer that they get the better draft pick than have the “honor” of finishing in third.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Then why mock Cora for celebrating the home runs after blaming him for not holding the lead to 3?
Because Cora's generally poor at judging when the Sox might rally. Like, maybe if you're in a tight WC race, and the lineup is turning over, you try to keep the score close, instead of stealing another inning with a guy who's already, in this game, shown himself to be very hittable.

But Cora went with the early-season playbook. The Sox were trailing, so he tried to steal innings, and so punted the game, turning it into one that requires a major rally, instead of a more reasonable one.

I think "punting" is a rational approach. But I do not think it should be done mechanically, which often seems the case with Cora. And so we are 69-61. Hardly a disaster, but probably not good enough to make the post season.

(I didn't even see him celebrating, BTW.)

Maybe I missed this- but who did folks want pitching instead of Murphy? Whitlock is unavailable, Winckowski threw 20 pitches yesterday, Schreiber 24 (and 22 the day prior- so prob n/a). Bernardino is on the IL. Not a lot of options, especially when you play again tomorrow.

Story better have a good offensive season in 2024. That contract is not looking too good here.

Martin, presumably. In a game where our WP was about 18 percent and we needed 5 bullpen innings.
