Game 134
I am writing while watching a hurricane,
after seeing the Red Sox lose in the rain.
The weather I’m witnessing seems quite germane,
‘cause the team has blown a big chance to maintain
a place in the race, and hope’s washed down the drain.
It’s almost September; It’s time to retrain
my rose-colored eyes and my “but what if?” brain,
to watch the ballgames and let them entertain
instead of enrage me and drive me insane.
Time to take the good and the bad with a grain
of salt, to enjoy them and try to abstain
from pounding my fists as I’m shouting profane
phrases so loudly that the neighbors complain,
worried I’m rabid or strung out on cocaine.
I vow, now, to watch things with much more constrain.
I won’t stress at whether we lose ground or gain.
I will not scoreboard-watch intensely and feign
we’re Belle of the Ball when we’re just a Plain Jane.
Of course, as I type this, I know it’s in vain.
My thirst for the playoffs is not gonna wane
til the day the Sox are officially slain.
I’ll still have hope the baseball gods will ordain
a postseason spot for this season’s campaign.
If you look, I swear you can still see a lane.
I promise it is there. You just have to crane
your neck out to see it (so far it might sprain.)
A big win today might just set off a chain
of amazing things in the games that remain.

What if, rather than returning home, the Apollo 13 crew said, "Fuck it. We may not even *make* it home. Let's just land on the moon and die there."

Kimbrel just gave up the Phillies' lead over the Angels, who now lead by two. He still does that stupid pose, but it doesn't seem to help him. Game on mlbn.

I noticed that. How could your heart not melt watching him hold those two little kids hand’s walking up to home plate?
This is who he is. He along with his wife Kourtney have always been intimately involved with their foundation work. He is a world-class human being and a damn good baseball player, a mentor/coach to the younger players. Worth every penny of what the Sox should pay to have him here next year.

I’m just not a Youk fan in the booth. Maybe it’s the voice or the intonation or the cliches, I’m not sure

Raffy is one of the most streaky players. The epitome of all or nothing. And a lot of nothing the past 7 games.

Gotta question Rafaela's maturity when he blows off the managers phone call so he play Playstation.

For me, it's OB. He always wants to talk about anything other than the game on the field. He leads whoever is in the booth with him into this.
By the way, the game is going to hell in a handbasket while I've been typing.

Cool. Down 2-0 early. On our way to another starter not being able to get through 5.

A lot of people leave the phone silent when they want to get something done. It's just different now.
No doubt there. Still, I am aware of someone calling me even if it's on silent. If I am on the verge of a life-changing moment, I am surely aware.

Still not sure what we're saving the yellow jerseys for.

Pretty good two out hitting there. I wish we hit like that.

They’re just a bad team. They played out of their minds to be in thr conversation. But yet again, a misfire at the trading deadline. Either shit or get off the pot. The standing pat thing is so boring.

It was fun to conceivably in contention up to now. Unexpected given the way the season started and at some point having bullpen after bullpen game.

But yeah, it ends today.
